Stinky FAB VS. Rusty's Steering/WJ Conversion

I used some StinkyFab parts on my WJ knuckle conversion and I could not be happier with them. In the end, I actually could have saved quite a bit of time, money and frustration by just buying the whole StinkyFab high-steer/WJ knuckle kit instead of piecemealing everything together myself.

Dirt cheap XJ OBD-II engine monitoring with your smart phone

You should be able to borrow a code reader at any AutoZone and test your port. I wouldn't be surprised if your ELM is DOA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dirt cheap XJ OBD-II engine monitoring with your smart phone

The wifi network created by the ELM device should be named in the manual that came with the device. It will not indicate Dash Command. Once your phone is on the ELM's wifi network, the DashCommand software will try to find the ELM device by IP address. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Greasy chinesium steering. Probably only 3,000 miles on the TREs. OK for trail spares?

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

Measuring for limit straps. No, this is not a safe way to lift a jeep and I would not work on it like this. Also, only one wrench flat. No ragrets.

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

Yes! I finished last night. It feels really good on the road. The brakes feel much stronger. I can't wait to wheel it. Just need to add limit straps to prevent drag link abuse and I'll be ready to hit the mall. I'll post a final "what can go wrong" list this week.

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

I'm not sure what brand they are. They came with the Jeep. I believe they are a 3.75" offset.

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

The shiny new aluminum tie rod came in from Stinky Fab so I got to put everything together. I'm really happy with the tie rod. It bends around the RuffStuff diff cover at full lock just like it's supposed to. I will probably take a little metal off the cover just to minimize the bending. I...

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

You are awesome. Thanks! Cal convinced me to add the Rubicon Express track bar bracket brace (RE1670). It makes sense. That bracket seems to take quite a beating. My old one came loose all the time. It was a pain to install because the frame stiffener pushes everything on the frame out a...

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

I had the linkage cut and set just right. Then I realized the axle was not centered all. Try again. I think it's OK now. I ordered a solid 7075 aluminum tie rod and pre-drilled brake discs from Stinky Fab. That should get this over the finish line.

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

Cutting the linkage. 1.5" x .250 wall DOM. How much threads do you leave for adjustments? This seems like maybe not enough although the axle is centered right here and the springs are compressed. .

Cool. I will order them with a tie rod.

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

Well, I've mangled a perfectly good set of brake discs and caused minor injuries trying to drill progressively larger holes in them. This is not a job for an idiot with a hand drill. Can I just buy WJ rotors drilled for an XJ somewhere? I see that IRO sells them. Anywhere else? I'm done with this.

    Any particular reason why?

OTK WJ knuckle swap. What could go wrong?

I accidentally ordered 5/8" misalignments for the track bar instead of 1/2". Should I drill out the track bar mounts to 5/8" or go buy 3/4" to 1/2" misalignments? Or does it matter?
