    Compression test results Questions

My 94 is having the same problems, except mine does fine unless I'm driving in the city traffic or going under about 30 mph. Replaced the fan clutch, the t-stat, t-stat housing, water pump, radiator is a 3-core about a year old, upper and lower hoses. She runs fine if I drive with the heat on...

    Changing a water pump

For future reference: I just had the same problem with my water pump, but had no pipe wrench. Got some stuck-bolt-solvent-in-a-can stuff from the hardware store, sprayed the living crap out of the thing, and off it came about twenty minutes later.

Hey, does anyone know if seats from a 96 xj will fit a 93? Anything different there, like brackets?

    Replacing Rear Seal

So I've read a lot of posts, checked the manuals, and have a pretty good idea how to do it. Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that I can't get the top half of the seal out---is it possible to put the whole thing back together to limp to a mechanic? If so, am I looking at 6 blocks? 6 miles?

Need a Good XJ Mechanic near Seattle

Just for everyone's edification: After the NSS was replaced and the stalling issue continued--trouble codes finally showed up. Faulty TPS. Took the throttle body off, removed the TPS which had for some reason been cemented in with lok-tite. Doused the entire thing in TB cleaner, put the new...

Need a Good XJ Mechanic near Seattle

John- It was good to meet you at Auburn Car Repair. For all who are interested, it turned out to be two seperate issues. The stalling out is most likely the distributor (although we're not 100% on that one); the not starting issue is caused by a bad NSS. Sadly, that's $300 installed. Ah...

Need a Good XJ Mechanic near Seattle

The problem is this: Car starts fine, no problems there. But once up and running, I essentially have to drive with one foot on the gas, one on the brake. If I take my foot off the gas, it (most often) shudders, sputters, and dies. Then, it will not restart at all. I turn the key, I can hear...

    93 xj cuts out won't start--help!

But wouldn't that show up on a code reader? When running and in Park, the charge is about 14.5 on the meter. And unless I keep my foot on the gas, it stalls out--that's when the non-starting thing happens. As long as I drive with both feet, it's not an issue--it's when I take my foot off the...

I've always done it myself, but at this point I think I need someone with a bit more experience. I can't solve this problem. Very frustrating.

    93 xj cuts out won't start--help!

Yes, fuel pump primes--everything is as it should be up until the point when the key is turned all the way, where the starter should fire. At that point nothing happens. I thought it was the starter, it's not. Plenty of spark.

    93 xj cuts out won't start--help!

Here's the deal: Jeep runs great with one foot on the gas, one foot on the break. If I let off the gas, it will sputter, shudder, and die. Will not re-start. All electronics work fine: lights, radio, seat-belt buzzer, et al, but when the key is turned NOTHING HAPPENS. The only option is to...
