Which Steering Box do you recommend?

I was in a pinch and had to put one on my kid's '97 Sport about 4 months ago. Got it at Autozone for about $105. It's really tight and has worked perfectly. I did also drain the fluid out of the reservoir ran a little new fluid through the pump to flush it before hooking it up to the box...

How To: Build your own 4.0L turbo Cummins (Beware...170+ pics)

If you're looking for a simple way to manually control your AW4, here is a fix I came up with. It works great and was pretty easy to install. I know it says to not use torque converter lockup at full throttle, but on a dyno and not shifting between gears it shouldn't be a problem. You just...

    XJ Procrack swaybar

Just read through this entire thread. IMO, tacking the flange adapter to the end of the shaft isn't going to effect the strength of the setup. The tacks will break if the spline engagement isn't very tight, but will keep the bar in place with no real negative effects other than if you need to...

    Steering Box Brace

Hey guys, I'm the one with the flickr account with the steering brace. I like the ideas you are all passing around. It's great to share ideas. Just my 2 cents. Keeping things as simple as possible will equal reliability. Putting a bearing out on the end of the shaft will definitely add...

    Bracing tire carrier to hatch

I made mine out of 2 x 2 x .120 wall tube. Seemed to be a good balance between weight and strength.

    Bracing tire carrier to hatch

I made it to be able to accommodate a 35. The end is fully captured with UHMW and has no rattles.

    Bracing tire carrier to hatch

Without seeing pictures I'm taking a guess, but, I personally wouldn't brace it against the hatch at all. Being fiberglass, if pressure is put against it in a place it wasn't designed for, you'll end up with fatigue cracks in the hatch more than likely. Even a really stout carrier is going to...

    Floor repair

I got the pans from Raybuck with the holes in them, but I wish I would have got the cheaper ones from one of the other sites without any holes because I ended up plugging the ones that came in them.

    Floor repair

One thing to remember, once you get the floor repaired, and if you put carpet back in (some of us do on our daily drivers), you have to take care not to let moisture get back in on the carpet and saturate it. I picked up my xj and the carpets were filthy. I steam cleaned the livin' crap out...

    If you had a machinist

This has been my experience also. I have been a welder/fabricator for 23 years and also have training as a machinist. My shop at home is set up for fabricating and welding and I can build almost anything I need for my rig. I don't have a lathe or mill there, although I would like them, but...

    If you had a machinist

I'd have them build the parts to convert 2 GM 14 bolt rear diffs to front diffs with OTK steering, 'cause I have a plan.:D

Swapping cam positioning sensor into a dist. motor

Drive the roll pin out of the gear, pull the gear and spacer/washer off. Pull the shaft out of the distributor housing. The cam position sensor then comes out with a screw. Re-assemble in reverse order. As long as it's apart clean the old grease off of the shaft and bushings, inspect it for...

    Discolored door handles 2000 Cherokee

You could try a little acetone on a rag and/or toothbrush, try to keep it off the paint, it'll definitely strip the wax off, then Armorall them. That usually cleans mine up.

    Floor repair

They make replacement floor panels that fit pretty darn good. You'll have it finesse them a little with a hammer and grinder to make them fit. The seats are supported by cross members underneath, be careful not to cut through them when you cut out the old floor. The circle with an "x" is...

    distributor squeaking

It would be worth pulling the distributor and checking it. My kids XJ had the same thing, so I replaced the distributor. When I got around to pulling the old one apart ( just drive out the gear roll pin and separate everything), all it needed was to be buffed with a little 600 grit sandpaper...

    1990 4.0L XJ - Name That Sound

This may sound crazy, but check to see if your spark plugs are tight. I have a GMC Jimmy that had a similar sound, thought it was a lifter, ended up being a loose spark plug. It ran perfectly fine, but drove me nuts and didn't find it until doing normal maintenance.

    What would you do?

I was leaning towards the 44 more for housing strength, brakes, ball joints, gear size etc. If I try to beef the 30, it'll really only end up about the same as a 44. If I start with a 44 and beef it, I'll be ahead. And I can keep driving my rig until the diffs are ready to go in and have...

    Amp draw of oem fan?

I put a 97 aux fan in my 93. It's supposed to have a 40 amp fuse, but the biggest one I could fit in the fuse block was a 30 amp due to the physical size of the fuse slot. I've had no problems for the last 8 months even in the hot weather with the AC running.
