    Evans Creek Oktoberfest: 10/27 - 10/28

Dustin, At the moment my plan is to be there as early as I can on Saturday afternoon. I will be bringing my tow rig and camper and my new Jeep on the trailer. Michael

    Evans Creek Oktoberfest: 10/27 - 10/28

It's been a long time since I have seen most of you! :wave1: I might be able to make the end of this run. I wouldn't be able to get there till Saturday afternoon but would stay till Sunday evening. This assumes you don't mind a non XJ Jeep on the trail with you:anon: Michael

    Best tires for my xj

I ran Hi-tec retreads years ago and they were excellent. For the price you really couldn't beat them. I believe they have updated their tread pattern since I had them but they were excellent. I would recommend them to others. Michael

    Best tires for my xj

From an AT tire perspective the Duratracs are an excellent choice, however their one and only major draw back is their sidewall strength. They have a Very soft sidewall and it is often a complaint from users. They should be excellent in the snow/ice. I have no idea about the sand. The BFG...

what gears are people running in the norhwest

The only gear related issues I ever had was a D30 pinion/ring gear (4.88's). I was running 33" bias TSL's (about 35" tall) and stock axles with 297 joints on purpose thinking that the axles would be the "fuse" and not the pinion of the 4.88. Apparently in my case it wasn't. Failure was due to...

if i couldnt wheel a jeep

That has to be one of the worst video's I have ever seen! Revolting buggy, ignorant driver! You can come up with lame excuses for the area, and what they do. At the end of the day they are excuses, and I don't see ANY excuse for what I watched in that video! Michael

    Spring Recommendations

I ran about 4-4.5" lift springs in the rear of mine (bastard pack ~7 leaf if memory serves me). the fenders were trimmed as much as possible so I got as much up travel as possible without tires hitting the fenders, and my shocks were moved up on the axle so they were flush (not hanging down)...

Dustin, I think you will be very happy with the purchase. I was impressed with my fronts and was seriously considering switching out my rears for them also. I agree that IF you do end up basterdpacking them (which I agree is inevitable with almost all XJ packs we have seen in the past) that it...

    Fabb help needed.

In this case I would just make sure you use a thicker wall tube you can do some searching but I don't believe it will matter if it is DOM or seamless tube (HREW) if memory serves the HREW may hold up better in this application (I used .095 wall HREW as a test and it had a few dents in them). As...

    Fabb help needed.

This has been done many times, most commonly by those who are caging the inside of their XJ and going to use these supports to help get the support from the frame rail to the cage. IF I were doing this I would do it without the tube rails. I have done them before and they are a royal PITA for...

    Let's talk trailers

I have had mine for a while now but when I did the research I found that used trailers were not that much less than new and they needed new beds, tires, hubs, etc. The weight of the trailer was important to me. I found that most 7K trailers weight darn close to 2K empty. Add a heavy XJ and a...

Axle change what should I put in my junk?

Much better understanding, thanks. 1. I wasn't suggesting that 3K would build a D44 front, just that this is where I would spend my money. 2. IF you feel comfortable with the 8.25 (it should be plenty strong from what you have said) I would leave it and use it with what ever locker you want...

Axle change what should I put in my junk?

Maybe I need a little more background? Are you building the axles yourself or having them done? IF you bought a used axle what would you do and what would you have done? Why are you moving up to 35's from 33's? Due to the snow wheeling? I think it is a better idea to spend tax return money...

Axle change what should I put in my junk?

Just my opinion: 1. Don't put 35's under a cherokee without a cage or similar support. 2. There is a LONG list of items that need to be beefed up on the frame/lack there of before stepping up to 35's. 3. Tax return money can be spent in much wiser ways :lecture: Just my opion. Michael

    Elk Lake 1/7/2012

I had a 2005 with the 5.7 and all of the traction control goodies. I have had all sorts of high end 4x4 vehicles and without a doubt that Grand is an awsome vehicle with LOTS of capabilities. I did do a budget boost and 32" tires and it had incredible traction both on and off road...

Dustin, Just going to mention this while this tread has all sorts of other great information in it. I agree with your concerns/comments about shackle relocation, I don't like the way they hang down either. The other thing that I was interested in was moving my rear axle back a little (maybe...

Decided Im gonna teach myself to do gears

I have done several sets of gears and it is not difficult to do with the correct tools (that I have) and the patience to do it correctly. Here is what I have always "preached" to others. IF you want to do it to learn how to do it, then it is worth the effort. IF you want to do it to save the...
