Thanks guys. joe, I may have definitely had the wrong impression on the voltage regulator. My main question was the serpentine belt length as that was my main concern. Seeing that the 99' alternator will still require an external voltage reg, where can I find one? I will def. measure the...
My 89's alternator took a crap. I have a spare 4.0 out of an 99' sitting in my shop with alternator and bracket. Obviously the mounting bracket changed over the years. I also noticed the newer alternator sheave is a smaller diameter than the older alternator. Obviously Jeep changed the belt...
All the research I've done on here as well as other sources prove that a MAJORITY of the Wagoneer axles are narrower. Not by much but it is true. The spring purches are also literally in the same position. My axle came from an '86.
My tape didn't lie and I know my eyes are working good...
Front is wider...may be 3/4"...IDK
Rear is narrower...believe its 58" WMS and XJ stock is 60.75" WMS. Easy to make up with wheel spacers/adapters or just leave it alone if you're swapping the front too and are ok with running 6 lug hubs.
I just bought a rear D44 from an '86 Grand Wagoneer from my local J-Yard for $100. They even pulled it for me and had it waiting to load...
You do the math. Aftermarket D44s are sweet but you should seriously consider doing it yourself with a J-Yard axle and learn something...
I know not many XJ guys (especially on here) dont run their 35s anymore but I really need to move this....please make me an offer if you think you can use it.
I'm doing a rear axle swap to a Dana 44 in the back of my '89 XJ so I won't be need the rear ARB anymore. Its a 27 spline setup for 3.73s and UP...I was running 4.88s on it. IT DOESNT have a ring gear on it...
Will include new internal seal and air line as well as the fittings you will need...
