    Powder coat or paint

Personally, I'd no niether and instead spray it with the "bed liner" in a can. The finish won't get marred by small rocks hitting it and gives decent grip for a high-lift ir for crawing onto your bumper. As a second option, I'd paint it because you can easily touch it up if you take any paint...

    AW4 Solenoid Check

I tested them from the TCU leads and had no resistance. Does one solenoid failing cause a cascading effect which takes them all out? Also, anyone know the price on the solenoids?

    31" Rubber; NO Lift

Opinions please. This is my 89 with 31" tires and no lift. All you need to do this is TJ flares, a grinder with a cutoff wheel, and some sheet-metal to replace the interior panels in the hatch. Personally, I don't think this comprimises the integrity on the unibody since the main support...

    Best locker combo.........

The rear of my XJ is lincoln-locked. In snow and ice, especially on the street, it likes to swap ends unless its in 4x4. That being said, a full-locked rear can provide hours of enjoyment on deserted streets. Off-road, the lincoln shines in the slippery stuff. You just have to be ready for it.

    Rear Wiper Switch

Just a thought. You might be able to run a "Dimmer" switch inline to the wiper motor. By reducing the voltage you should be able to slow the motor down, so while not truely intermittent, the wiper arn would move back and forth more slowly or normally, depending on where you turn the knob to...

    AW4 Solenoid Check

I know that the way to test the solenoids on the AW4 is to test their resistance. For this, you have to pull the pan, disconnect the leads, and put an ohmmeter to it. Is there a way to test the solenoids in the AX4 wihtout pulling the transmission pan (ie. from the solenoid wires coming out of...

    1989 Cherokee Specs?

I don't know what everybody else's experence is, but both my 89 and 90 XJ's have some wierd electrical problems..... lights staying on, wierd shorts, etc. Other than that, I had 310,000km (193,000mi) on the 90 and I have 450000km (280,000mi) on the 89 with the original drivelines with only a...

    Transmission Problems

When I bought the XJ there was a fuse spliced into the Yellow wire that runs into the ECU. I was told that if you were to splice a switch into that wire you could effecivly "hold" a gear or in other word bypass the ECU and make the transmission shift into 1st, 3rd or 4th. I was trying to...

    Transmission Problems

I have an 89 XJ with a 4.0 and the AW4 transmission. Here's my problem. The other day I lost all forward gears. They didn't go over a couple of months or weeks, but in one day. The gears started skipping out. It would take me a while to get rolling until something would grab and I would jet...

    Snow Tire Question

Snow Tires? Your choice of tire will depend on the type of snow you drive in. In a way, snow is like mud. There are those that say go wide so you float over the top and those that say to go tall and narrow to get to the hard stuff at the bottom. You choice will depend on your personal...
