Ordered the alternator today after talking to a rep at Mean Green. He told me four things:
- Part numbers MG1334, MG1334-D1, and MG1334-D2 are all the same alternator
- For my 1998 Cherokee, the alternator mount will need to be clearance because the MG1334 has a larger case than the stock...
Thanks for the reply. I have been emailing with Jon (5-90) and he will be making cables for me. He has been a great help with planning the electrical upgrades.
Does anyone have actual experience installing this alternator on a 1998 Cherokee XJ (4.0L engine)? Is modification necessary to the alternator or to the mounting bracket?
I have searched and have found threads that indicate modifications are needed on the mounting brackets for earlier years of...
Its true that once you find a useful setting on the Ranchos you don't adjust them much. But, you still have the capability to adjust. If you don't get valving on the Bilsteins you like, its a lot more painful to make a change. I run Rancho 9000s on my XJ and Konis on my street/autocross car...
I run a data recorder plugged in to the OBDII diagnostic port and periodically download the information to my laptop. I didn't get this code until recently.
Suggestion: Use Mobil 1 10w-30 High Mileage oil.
Background: My 1998 XJ 4.0L with 5 speed transmission and 140,000 miles would drop to 0 psi at idle after running hard in the sand. Oil psi at freeway speeds was in the mid 30's. Changing to the 10w-30 Mobil 1 gives 10 psi at hot idle and...
I have Eaton Elockers in front D30 and rear D44 and would buy them again. A couple of installation shops I talked with confused them with the Auburn Ected and strongly recommended against them until I clarified the difference. Those shops had previously had to pull and replace Ected's.
My 1998 XJ with stock 4.0L engine and AX15 transmission continually throws a P0332 code for "Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)". My forum and internet searchs seem to indicate this engine doesn't have a knock sensor. I don't hear an actual engine knock under hard acceleration. Engine...
If the fluid got too low in the MC (happened to me after ZJ rear disk brake swap) there could be air in the MC passages. Pull the MC, clamp in vise in level position and pump fluid through the MC until fluid is bubble free. Reinstall MC and rebleed lines. There are some cheap MC bleeding kits...
Problelm solved! Thanks for directing me to look at the VSS. The transfer case yoke nut was not tightened to spec which allowed the speed sensor ring to slip on the output shaft. Tera Manufacturing issued TSB061505 which addresses this as part of mechanical and electrical issues to be...
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try this. The sensor was new with the SYE installation in July 2011 and I assumed (ass u me) a new sensor wouldn't be the source. However, the connector and wiring needs more than just the visual check I gave it. I will let you know . . .
Please offer me some new ideas. I've read a lot of threads on several forums about similar problems with XJ's and TJ's and have looked extensively at hits from internet searches on the subject. So far, nothing that I have tried has resolved the problem.
Problem: Speedometer drops to a lower...
I used Teraflex cables:
4304169 Cable E-Brake TJ 34.375" outer housing 2.5" Inner Cable to Splitter.
4304175 Cable E-Brake 59" outer housing 2.5" Inner Cable to Splitter.
One of the benefits of not using stock cables is that I no longer have the loop of cable that drops down below the axle on...
