if you believe that something is hitting the timing chain cover,it coul be the harmonic balancer seperating. the rubber that is inbetween the two rings will walk back against the cover and worry the poop out of ya.

getting 15 mpg w/ 31s isn`t very bad.my stock `92 with 235`s only gets 17 in town and 18 on the highway.
