another thing is when i took it to autozone they ran the code reader on it and the only codes it pulled up was something about the engine running to lean and another one said the engine was running rich, kind of strange to get both codes
i pulled out some plugs and they looked clean enough to spark pretty good. the guy I bought the jeep from said it didnt start messing up till he drove it though some water. last night when I got off work it was a little cold and damp, the jeep ran like it was off the line at the factory, but...
I just went and bought a 96 xj with 6.5 inches of lidt and 35" tires, the guy I bought it from said he swapped out the engine with a 93 ZJ its still a 4.0 though. the only problem I am having is when I lay into the petal the jeep bogs down and backfires sometimes but its just all around...
I have a 90 xj and need donor parts... transfer case. front end/ front end parts. engine parts.. I am trying to get this thing running again, if anyone in the area has anything i could use let me know :) thanks!!

I have a 98 xj and the check engine light keeps coming on, when I was at the parts store the other day when the guy told me to figure out what the codes are you turn the key on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds and it will read out the codes on the odometer. well I tried that and nothing happened...
So I went ahead and drove the jeep till it stalled, tried starting it and it would not start, then I sprayed the crank position sensor with carburetor cleaner because its so cold and the jeep started right up, I am assuming that is the problem with it not starting. thank you guys for your help!!!
I can put money on it being the fuel pump relay, my 90 xj did the same exact thing and when I changed the fuel pump relay ($5) it stayed started everytime. make you you get yourself a wire brush and electrical cleaner and clean out the connections where that relay goes. top and bottom. and it...
also I checked to see if it was getting spark and it is so that cancels out fuel pump and also distributor or spark problems. the spark plugs are in good condition
