Run Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Milage 10/30 or 10/40 and forget about the snake oil. It is SL rated and the best you can run for a stock I6 4.0. No need for the fancy racing oil, just go to wally world and get the 5 quart jug plus one single and you are done.

I believe your fuel filter is in the fuel tank like mine (01). I'd use the OEM Champion or NGK plugs (depends on model)

I like 10-40 M1 HM in the summer, 10-30 in the winter. Mine is a late model though 01, and the seals are still good, holding up well with the synthetic. For an older I6, your preference might be the best. It is a lot to consider for each individual! Good info here to help make the decision though.

It probably has more to do with oil change interval, but I can hear and feel a difference with Synthetic. I read about guys liking the diesel oils, then I read how guys are pissed about bad gas milage running 15-40! You are not being as nice to your engine as you could be if you are not...

I see no better oil than Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Milage 10-30 OR 10-40. It is SL rated (1000ppm) and can be had at Walmat pretty cheap. Unless your 4.0 leaks like a sieve (a whole 'nother problem) this has to be the best and most easily accessed oil. If you don't think 1000 is enough...

Just pull the lower radiator hose. Much easier.

clean your throttle body too if its been awhile.

I cleaned mine out and replaced the filter/screen tray with the pan just hanging as well, as I was afraid to pull apart the fill tube. Its not as nice as total removal but its very do-able if you just let it hang.

Do all 4.0's have Flat Tappets? Even the 01' ?
