    beefing the factory gas skid

Take some pix along the way, if you can. I'd be curious how this turns out. I've thought of doing this with another rig that seldom sees off road, but has a rusted out gas tank skid.

anyone painted the stock black "fading to grey" flares?

Fusion and other paints might work too well, especially with older rigs where you don't want the flares to look shiny shiny. Duplicolor I believe makes 'bumper plastic paint' (or similar name) that's designed to paint this sort of hard semi-porous plastic. I used some about 6 months ago on TJ...

Front shocks are limiting droop, here's my idea, tell me if I'm way off base...

FWIW (minor point), some shackles do indeed make contact with the rear bumper bolts... the ones facing in, four on each side. They quite obviously did on mine when I was running the stock rear bumper with the OEM bolts.

Paint or Powder Coat? New Bumpers...

Another vote for Duplicolor spray on bed liner. The gritty appearance also covers imperfections, drips, scratches, etc. Easier to lay than spray paint too.

    Square tube lca's

I had some of those Ranchos on my TJ for a couple of years and they worked just fine; stronger than the tubular arms they replaced. However, you should remove them and check the bushings from time to time. The inner steel crush sleeve or insert (whatever it's called) in mine started to stretch...

    Hood won't close

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards the cable explanation. I think when I first bought it almost 2 years ago I recall the hood release being difficult. I must've lubed it or something.

    Hood won't close

Is there something more obvious than adjusting the little screw-in stops that I'm missing? Having trouble getting my hood closed ('94); sometimes can get one side, but never both.

    Tire on top... bad idea

Well, I strapped my spare on top for the first time over the weekend for my first trip of the year to Rausch Creek (PA). Almost flopped twice during the day - once sliding down a snowy hill; the second time on the "Gauntlet." Guess I'll think of a better solution next time out.

    Just an Idea....Paying Members

Northern Virginia here too... a lot more active after winter has passed.

Should PAYING Members of less than 1 year be allowed to serve on the Mid Atl. BOD?

I say it's okay, but it is certainly a factor that should be considered during the nomination/election process. Maybe post count would be a better indicator (half-joking). Anyway, I'm glad to see this chapter get going. Northern VA is exactly right between two existing regions and isn't...

are these safe and usable on an xj?

I've heard those are actually pretty good. An improvement over a typical lift block, which is also useful for minor wheelbase adjustments. (I'm not sure why the page/ad specifically mentions Suburbans.)

3.07 to 3.55 axles with 31's, is it worth it?

X2 those who recommend 4.10 gears. You're never going to go smaller, and 3.55s are such a half-measure. If you're using some sort of calculation to guess what ratio, consider that 3.55 or 3.73 are/should be good ratios for stock size tires, ergo 4.10 with 31s.

couple questions about a used lift kit????????

I'd call Rusty's and see if they wouldn't be nice enough to send you the installation instructions. A lot of companies will do that for you versus having you install their product (even used) incorrectly and making noise about it later.

    OME lift concerns.

Sounds like you answered your own question. How 'bout Google? First hit: "Jeep Cherokee 84-01 Rear Medium 76MM lift CS035RB #338" 76mm is 3" in case you're unsure.

    9" ??

Same as any rear end, you need to have the correct side gears or locker to work with the shafts you desire to use. 28 and 31 spline are very common, as the 28s came in 66-77 Broncos and the 31s came in F trucks and 78+ Broncos. I.e., you can't use the same Detroit with 28, 31, 35... I've...

    Full-Traction, Rubicon Express or Clayton?

I have the FT kit and paid about what you quoted for it last December. It's off road use only, but rides well enough that I'd recommend it for street use. Having said that, however, I'd probably look hard at the T&T kit now (and maybe the Clayton and RK as well) due to the way they mount their...

    not happy with lift....

Get some br shackles, but also give the springs a chance to break in a little before you write them off. They may flex better with some miles on them. You could toss a little weight into the cargo area to speed this process.

ATF leaking out of Chry 8.25?

This would be my guess too. I have an Early Bronco that does the same thing. If you wanna' be really brave, you could rub some of that fluid on a painted surface and see if eats away the paint. ATF will do that, but gear oil shouldn't.

New coils, Jeep still leans in the front?

Can't say for sure what the problem is, but I'd try switching the springs from right to left. If you still have the sag on the same side then you know it's not the springs.
