I think the MJ kit is $1200. Bang-for-the-buck is a pretty relative term, though. Some people (me) are satisfied with a used $100 lift kit that's rattle-canned flat black. Some people would rather pay more for better quality.

Rubicon Express is generally considered to be one of the best lifts you can buy. They have a 5.5" kit that fits the MJ.

I had 30s with no lift and the front rubbed the flares if the suspension was flexed at all. I can't imagine 31s without trimming.

They no longer have inertial tensioners because they use electronic ones now that are faster, safer, and arguably more reliable. My '92's belts will lock, but it takes a very fast, very sharp pull to get them to do it. I've never experienced it while driving, even with sharp stops.

Early tow hooks are different from late tow hooks - the bumper mounts are different. You'll want '97-'01 tow hooks. -96 is on the left, 97- is on the right.
