My AW4 tranny just lost 4th gear. Lots of stuff sitting down in the pan when I changed the filter so it's got I've got problems. A guy that used to be a mechanic for a Jeep dealership told me that rebuilding this tranny wasn't a good idea. He said the Jeep dealer he worked for always replaced...
Recently my TJ has been giving me troubles. It has an auto transmission, and when it shifts to 3rd, either up or down, it seems to be slipping. The engine revvs way up, and the gear won't catch until I lett off the gas. It's only 3rd gear that's giving me this trouble.
Any ideas?
Both my 97 ZJ and the 95 YJ are having brake problems... the front driver's side caliper (spelling?) seems to be causing the brake pads to drag which eventually begins brake fade and some smoking. I took it off and cleaned them up. I'm wondering if the piston is corroded or something? Same...
Well, I got two. One halon and one dry chem. I'll try the halon first and if that fails, then the dry chem comes out.
Oh yeah, and the "For aviation fire protection use only. No other use use allowed by law." Tell them you were on the way to the airport when the fire started :laugh3:
10700 miles but 37 years old. Smokes at startup, the ugly grey oil burning kind, but seem to let up after the engine warms up. Some days it starts with no smoke at all. I'm sure it needs a rebuild but that's the deal with the intermitant smoke?
This stuff seems to work pretty well for general clean up. I just cleaned out a fuel line on my M715 that was pretty gunked up. I blew it out with some compressed air and poured about half a bottle through the line. Seems to have helped a bit. As for the throttle body, I'd just get a can of...
Yeah, I ran some carb cleaner through it and it's pretty filthy. I really need to take it apart a give it a real cleaning but I didn't have time today. Just seems suspicious that it will rev up for a while then lose power and backfire. My gut (and my nose) says it's drowning in fuel.
I...
Original military 24v ignition. Runs fine at idle and low rpm and will rev up for a while but after about a minute of driving at normal rpms it begins to lose power and backfire. Gotta check the timing but wouldn't that be consistant from engine start to engine shut down? This thing is a lot...
Thanks, I found a company that will two my truck, and only my truck, down to me. I could have saved about 400 bucks by doing it myself but then again I don't have to drive a thousand miles dragging an oversized truck behind me. My transmission and insurance company will appreciate me just...
I wouldn't pay for it at all unless it's demostrated to be working AT the time of sale otherwise it could be a case of, "it worked before you took it too bad for you it doesn't work now". Tell them to power it up or they can keep it if they have a problem with that then there's proabably a...
Trying to get new toy home!
I'm buying a 1967 fullsize truck (85" width and aprox 200" length) but it's located in NC and I live in FL. Being that it's 38 years old, I'm a little concerned that it won't like being driven that far so I'm trying to figure out some options besides having it...
I used to have that... I did all the stuff listed above and more and no improvement. When the tranny went ahead and replaced the u joints. Problem solved. Might want to take a look at them too. Good luck.
There's something to that CPS theory. If the wires get hot it screws up the signal to the comp. Been there, done that. PS If you're hitting 235 you got a cooling problem. I never see the other side of 215 even with a flogging.
A site as good as NAXJA would be prefect since we're all driving the same thing. Who can we get to review the idea and run with it or tell me to shut up?
:laugh3: Yeah, Utah is a just a tiny bit far, I'm in Jacksonville, FL.
What do ya think about the dealer database though? It would be cool if it was searchable too.
