Sub par MPG's. Trying to get more

Regardless of whether or not the AC is on or defrost is on, the AC clutch pulley is spinning 100% of the time the engine is on. So if you have a problem with that such as a bad bearing causing drag, it could be causing a slight decrease in power/mileage. Of course it depends on how bad the...

89 XJ lower engine bay shield.

Does anyone have a pic of this shield? I don't think I ever saw one on my Jeep.

How hard is it to change the steering box lower seal?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBW2eImYEpA Horrible video, but you can see what's involved.. Kinda dumb that midway he found out that wasn't the cause of the leak in the first place. Lol.

    Door Window Wiper Questions

I have the 97+ window felts (wiper seals) on my 87. BUT, I also have all the rest of the window and components from the 97+ as well. I'm not sure if it would work if just replacing the seals without the rest of the stuff.

Issue with ZJ disc to 44 swap

I too don't recall having to modify the rotors when putting ZJ brakes on my D44.

Bought my XJ at Bass Pro Shops!

Yea, you have to upload the pics on a seperate site (I use flickr, other use photobucket, postimg, imgur etc.) and then just paste the url in. Flickr has a "share" link in each pic that gives you the code to paste into your post. It works well for may forums though I forget if Naxja is one of them.

88 Renix 4.0 XJ Various Questions

Well, guessing by the symbol printed on there, a diode may have been there. Sorry I don't know what mines looks like as it's installed. Brakes, one thing I thought of is to check that the calipers aren't switched left to right. The bleeder valve should be on the top of the caliper, if it's on...

Knock or "slip"? on low speed large radius turns.

Hmm, well, perhaps I'll change the fluid out for synthetic and add fresh LSD additive. I hear the GM stuff is the best. I went to a Toyota dealer and they even told me they go over to the Chevy dealer across the street and buy it there because "it's the best"..

    CTS readings 89 Renix - 160 - 175*f

I would check the CTS with a ohm meter and a thermometer in a pot of water with different temps. There should be a graph somewhere with the values it should read at certain temps. Even though the dash gauge is in the expected range, I wouldn't really trust it for much more than a consistency...

Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings, Rubber or Polyurethane?

I too like "runnin'onempty" always choose poly when given the choice. My preference comes from cars where I want to increase the road feel and handling characteristics, so that's why I choose poly. You may feel differently about what you want from your vehicle and maybe poly is not the choice...

Knock or "slip"? on low speed large radius turns.

Well, I changed it 6yrs ago and it sat in the garage until recently... I don't remember for sure if I put in friction additive for the LSD, but I don't know why I wouldn't have, so I'm guessing I did. I was considering changing to synthetic for the small mpg advantage.

Knock or "slip"? on low speed large radius turns.

Today I heard and felt un-rhythmic knocks when going through large radius turns slowly. I.e. on a windy road with slow traffic probably less than 5mph. My XJ does have a limited slip diff, is this a normal feeling? It does kinda feel like it could be the limited slip clutches slipping. I've...

So my jeep doesn't exist...and neither do my axle shafts

I believe the 249 uses a viscous coupling where the 242 uses an open differential. This is only for full time 4wd. All other settings should be the same.

Replacement Leaf Spring Bushings, Rubber or Polyurethane?

If you choose poly.. No you don't reuse the metal shells. You remove the whole OEM bushing and tap in the poly bushing.

Fuel Economy - 1990 Renix XJ

I dont' know if the info was already presented (I skimmed through previous posts), but DFlinstone on Cherokee Forum started a thread on the 746 Injectors. You might want to take a look at it if you are going to swap your injectors for your Renix. The are supposedly an exact match in specs to...

    The Brendamobile

Are those called silverstars? I thought they were called Icons? Look good though. I bought some of those for my Jeep and some Rubicon 16"s for my Toyota. The rubicon's didn't fit the Toyota, so the Toyota got the Icons and the Jeep got the Rubicons.

1987 4 door Rear door glass replacement

I replaced my windows and track with the 97+ stuff and it didn't use a rivet or anything there, so I just left it out.

Interchange of different door lock cylinders?

XJs had GM keys and cylinders sometime around pre 90. Not sure when the changeover occurred. But after the changeover, they were likely using chrysler keys, maybe even the double edged type (i've never really seen it). Totally different guts, and can't be swapped. I've tried using post 90 parts...

1987 4 door Rear door glass replacement

I recently put in tinted glass into my 87 as well. I don't believe there is a way to remove the main glass without removing the fixed glass and track first. As for removing the trim to find that rivet, I believe it just pulls up (it was a little while ago so I don't remember fully), so you'll...
