Yes you can is what I found out AFTER I bought the $18 stat. Use a 1/8 drill bit and put the hole at the top when you mount the stat. If you burp the system like I do, 2 days in a row, you should be fine. I know its overkill but I never had any problems when I flush the antifreeze in any of...
It is there to allow air to escape since the thermostat lays on its side instead of flat like it does in most auto applications. (An old school mechanic told me this) If it doesn't have an air hole in it then you could get an air bubble there and that could cause problems later with the...
Here is my bill breakdown. I picked up my 01' xj from the shop this morning. Its pretty much all labor:
Remove & Replace Rear shocks - $70 ( 1 shock was removed already)
Install supplied class 3 hitch - $70
Bleed and adjust rear brakes - $35
Install supplied rear flex brake hose - $49
Remove...
Try the pump and hold bleed method yourself. Sounds like there may still be air in the system. I just did a 4-wheel brake job myself, and I am no mechanic. I replaced the front caliper hoses and the single rear axle flex hose. I did the bleeding / flush myself with someone pumping the pedal...
I am here to learn, and enjoy reading all the posts. Here is my oddly optioned XJ.

Hi, just getting myself reacquainted with this site. I joined when I bought my 01 XJ Limited in 2005. I live next town over from Phillipsburg, NJ on the Delaware River. My XJ is all stock so far. I just installed 4 Old Man Emu shocks and the matching steering stabilizer. I did a 4 wheel...
I also forgot to mention that the Driver side heated seat is no longer working. The passenger side still works. When I push the popple actuator button to activate the seat heater, all it does is blink several times and then the light turns off instead of staying on constantly. I assume there...
Stupid question I know but:
do you have a volt meter ? to check if the battery just died on you ? How old is the battery, you didn't say. See if the battery will take a charge before you try to jump start it.
Get a new can of PB Blaster and start soaking down everything that you need to take apart to install your new lift, hopefully a few days in advance. Use some kind of Never Seize on your new lug nuts and that should prevent this from haunting you again.
You might want to consider getting yourself some new rubber block mounts for the top if yours are original or rusty. I broke both of mine and had to get them from a dealer, don't remember how much. A new radiator won't come with new ones. I hit a deer with my xj in march 06 and caused a leaky...
Its funny really. My shocks were originals that the factory installed. I used PB Blaster on the bolts for the axle and they came off pretty easy. My jeep has 79000+ miles on her and really has no rust forming yet. My mechanic is a local shop and he says that these shock bolt break all the...
The shop told me the switch alone was $94. I'm sure its going to be a large bill. I broke the top shock bolts on the left rear and then I broke two easy-outs, one in each bolt hole. So the shop had to deal with that for me and install both rear shocks and while they were at it, I had them...
I had my 01 xj apart in my garage for about 6 months and just took it out for the 1st time after fixing the brakes and shocks on Saturday. I had no left turn signal operation at all and intermittent 4-Way hazard function as well. I checked bulbs and they were Okay. I put the xj in the shop...
