It's been clocked at 140 at the end of one of the longer straights that we run at. If there was a road long enough it would probably do 160+. We're limited to 5th gear, we don't have the power or aero to overcome the OD in 6th gear.
Last weekend I took the Petty Cash Racing road race XJ to Laguna Seca to compete in two 7 hour races. This wasn't a 24 Hours of LeMons event as we've raced in the past, rather a more serious series for "real" race cars. We were pretty out gunned by a bunch of the car there, but we put up a...
My shifter comes out of the rear most cover; came out of a LS-equipped Trans-Am. I think it's got the factory SLP short shift kit, which is nice. Shift action is nice and direct.
We're using the stock F-body clutch, etc, all we had to do was find a generic clutch master cylinder (Cherokee one has a goofy fitting on it) from a Ford F-250 and had a custom clutch line made. Pedal feel is great, engagement is right where it should be. I couldn't believe how easy it is to...
Ok...finally got around to pulling the AW4 and found out that the transmission itself wasn't the failure. It actually ripped the flex plate apart and broke the snout off the torque converter. Pretty crazy:
But after screwing around with the adapter and AW4 for over a year, we've decided...
You need to add camber to the front end. This can be achieved by notching the front axle, or with 2-degree offset balljoints (what I did). Makes a huge impact on steering feel and front tire wear/contact patch. Speaking of contact patch, the affect of good tires can't be over stated. We run...
I would be concerned about a DOHC V8 motor fitting in the engine bay and routing the exhaust. But it would be cool, it's a badass engine an they sound great when you un-cork them.
Can't go wrong with the Full Traction 4-link kit. Not only does #4643 run it, many, many JeepSpeed XJs do as well. Trail rated, competition proven.

Any ideas why my LQ4 swapped Jeep is getting way worse mileage than when it had the 4.0? I know I'm going faster, but I was honestly expecting to break even, if not pick up economy.
I went from using 14 gallons in 1 hour, 45 minutes to only about 50 minutes with the same 14 gallons. Could it...
I have to ask the OP, what's the motivation of doing the IFS swap? Is it to get the rig lower, improve handling, etc? If the answer is simply a hot-rodding, let's try something new kind of approach, that's totally cool. Just genuinely curious.
I happen to have a C4 chassis sitting in a field waiting for something like this...but I've yet to find the limits of the XJ Cherokee chassis and solid axles.
We'll be getting them pre-grooved in "KOH pattern" from Falken. They seem to have the right balance of voids/contact patch pretty well figured out.
And yes, Falken knows that the market demands a true M/T tire in addition to their very capable and durable WildPeak A/T. I'll let you infer from...
Well, at the end of the day they're all pretty much the same much the same motor, and with tuning and a cam you can build the same power out of any of the three in the family (4.8, 5.3, 6.0). Ours is is totally stock (and we really did get it for free, guy thought it had a blown head...
