Problem with Ignition/ Key lock Cylinder

Update*** So with much frustration I was unable to remove the key lock cylinder. I use the screwdriver method to push that tab in and it pulls out slightly so that I no longer have to use the screwdriver, but then the key lock cylinder will just not come out any further. I'm not sure if I...

Problem with Ignition/ Key lock Cylinder

Hey all So I have a 1991 XJ 4.0 6 cylinder Automatic Transmission. I finally got it running (it had been sitting for years) but then the key got stuck. After lube and no luck, I took pliers to force it back toward the driver, and I was able to pull the key out. Unfortunately, this broke...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Update, was able to get some gunk out but still not fitting. I’ve decided to drop the tank and clean it but didn’t have time today. Any recommendations on getting those big rusty bolts for the tank shield off? Hopefully I can get the fuel pump to fit once that tank is out or maybe it will be the...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Hey thanks for the replies! Here's the update : So I got the old fuel pump out and it had lost its filter and had a bunch of black goop on it. Had a broken hose fall off of it, so it was ready to be replaced. Unfortunately, I could not get the new one to fit in there so I wasn't able to...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Thanks for the replies and info. I need to get some crimpers and a wiring kit and I can take care of that. Is there a way to wire those connectors together without cutting the connectors off? Just in case the fuel pump is crazy I would like to keep the possibility of using the resistor in...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Hey I have some updates from working on it today. ECU Fuses looked to be in good shape. The Ballast resistor ceramic was actually broke in two pieces. However, the plugs coming off of them had about 10-11 volts and they both showed power when one was plugged in. So even though the ballast is...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Is this the type of tool and kit you were referring too? https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-Butt-Splice-Wire-Connectors/999953686 I know you said not to get the cheapest but it looks good and is cheap haha. Thanks again for the information. I think I'll probably have time to work on the XJ...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Thanks for the next plan of action and wealth of info 8Mud! I'll get a chance to work on it early this week. What I'll plan to do is check that ECU fuse (which I believe is the fuel pump fuse among other things). Then I'll check to see if the ballast resistor is getting power going to it...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Thank you both for the replies, I have not tried hotwiring it, I don't think I have the tools or the know how to do that. I'm sure there are plenty of how-tos around the internet. Not sure what you mean by "Bad connector". Do you mean the male/female power connectors that are near the fuel...

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

As an update, I still didn't get a power reading on the multimeter going to the fuel pump. But the relay is for sure working. Still couldn't find the fuse for the fuel pump. Any ideas on why the fuel pump may not be getting power? I may have checked it wrong, I'm not a mechanic unfortunately lol

1991 XJ SE - Crank no start problems

Hey all, new here and I thought I would throw my hat in the ring. I have a 1991 Cherokee XJ SE that has been sitting for years. I'm able to get it running with starting fluid, so I'm pretty sure/ hope the only problem is that it's not getting gas. I just found out that I checked the power to...
