    NP242 Questions

I'd change all the bearing that come with the Master bearing kit. For sure a quality chain from BorgWarner Morse is best. I agree with xcm. Doing a complete tear down and inspecting all the other parts for wear is you best plan of action. Quit a bit of metal shaving picked up on that magnet for...

Rebuilding it with a new chain and new bearing will most likely quiet it down. Here is a link from Novak Conversions with what is involved: https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transfer-cases/np242 Here is a link Summit to kinda see what the master rebuild kit comes with: 1984 - 1995...

1990 XJ. Will not start - please help

Checking the OBD1 ECU for any codes as a start. Expect a code 12 for sure if you've disconnected the battery since it last ran. https://www.fixjeeps.com/jeep-check-engine-codes.html This can point you in the right direction to find out which sensor, or sensor wiring needs attention. Also trying...

    IAC question

X2 on RockAuto. You can get the quaility brand you want and the prices are awesome. I personally go with 'Standard' brand for my electronics. Made in USA or Canada (just like our XJ's). After all your are what you eat!

PROJECT Diversion: ready to move ahead!

Been a while since I had 3" lift. But do remeber setting it up well and do miss having it. 3" is nice for trail and streets nicely. At first I was on a budget and got the add aleaf setup to save $$$. However the ride was crappy and ended up saveing and getting the rear leaf pack that I should...

    MPG Trouble

I think your onto something with the maps sensor. I too noticed my gas milage dropping off. Acceleration was not as smooth so when I did the MAP sensor I did the TPS too. Picked up a few miles to the gallon and got the throttle smooth as glass. Love the XJ jeep motor but every few years it...

    Soft ride coils

X2 on that. I've got them and have been running them for years before the long arm stuff was made by everyone and their brother. Economical and it works well. Been to the Rubicon, Fordyce, and all the NorCal rock spots with this setup several times this setup. No issues although I did use grade...

    Soft ride coils

I had a similar problem with running the gas charged shocks. I went to a softer cellular gas type shock and the ride is like a caddy now. I'm since been running the Doetsch 9000 series shock for years as my back is bad and I need a soft ride. Here's a link to em: http://www.doetsch-shocks.com/2.asp

    axle or tcase?

Yep. The input thing is a PITA to figure in when shopping for a donor. Here a link to the Novak Conversions site that shows you all the different ones that you'll run into. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np_nvg_input_gears.htm When I got a replacement TC mine was longer but had the right...

    axle or tcase?

Any metal is likely deposited on the magnet below the oil pump pickup tube inside the TC. If you pumped the TC dry and drove it around you most likely have a bigger problem that a stretched chain. Since you planning on tearing it down to replace the chain I'd go through the case and check...
