I'd change all the bearing that come with the Master bearing kit. For sure a quality chain from BorgWarner Morse is best.
I agree with xcm. Doing a complete tear down and inspecting all the other parts for wear is you best plan of action. Quit a bit of metal shaving picked up on that magnet for...
Rebuilding it with a new chain and new bearing will most likely quiet it down.
Here is a link from Novak Conversions with what is involved:

Here is a link Summit to kinda see what the master rebuild kit comes with:

This guys has a pretty good way of doing it with a battery, couple wires, rubber hose and a can o carb cleaner.
I've done this before to test if an injector was good.

I had a couple dirty ones. I've got Ford 5.0 injectors in there now.
Checking the OBD1 ECU for any codes as a start. Expect a code 12 for sure if you've disconnected the battery since it last ran.

This can point you in the right direction to find out which sensor, or sensor wiring needs attention.

Hi Kevin,
Sending you a PM with all the instructions from the FSM you will need to test the parts / areas in question.
Good luck checking, cleaning, and testing with the multimeter. Hopefully through this diagnosis you can pinpoint the exact part.
I totally here ya on the first I bought an...
Get a video camera and document the BS when it's going down. Once you get enough info send it to local police department anonymously as concerned citizen. Have your neighbors send similar letters with DVD videos as well.
If you live is a good town, once these dude get marked by the local cops...
X2 on RockAuto. You can get the quaility brand you want and the prices are awesome. I personally go with 'Standard' brand for my electronics. Made in USA or Canada (just like our XJ's). After all your are what you eat!
Been a while since I had 3" lift. But do remeber setting it up well and do miss having it. 3" is nice for trail and streets nicely. At first I was on a budget and got the add aleaf setup to save $$$. However the ride was crappy and ended up saveing and getting the rear leaf pack that I should...
I think your onto something with the maps sensor. I too noticed my gas milage dropping off. Acceleration was not as smooth so when I did the MAP sensor I did the TPS too. Picked up a few miles to the gallon and got the throttle smooth as glass.
Love the XJ jeep motor but every few years it...
X2 on that. I've got them and have been running them for years before the long arm stuff was made by everyone and their brother. Economical and it works well. Been to the Rubicon, Fordyce, and all the NorCal rock spots with this setup several times this setup. No issues although I did use grade...
I had a similar problem with running the gas charged shocks. I went to a softer cellular gas type shock and the ride is like a caddy now. I'm since been running the Doetsch 9000 series shock for years as my back is bad and I need a soft ride. Here's a link to em:

Yep. The input thing is a PITA to figure in when shopping for a donor. Here a link to the Novak Conversions site that shows you all the different ones that you'll run into. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/np_nvg_input_gears.htm When I got a replacement TC mine was longer but had the right...
Any metal is likely deposited on the magnet below the oil pump pickup tube inside the TC. If you pumped the TC dry and drove it around you most likely have a bigger problem that a stretched chain. Since you planning on tearing it down to replace the chain I'd go through the case and check...
X2. For what that u-joint to birfield conversion kit cost you can buy a currie HP44 front axle for the money here. http://4wheelonline.com/Products.aspx?CategoryId=39608&ProductId=102484. Not a bad deal for a built axle that'll run ya $1200 - $1400, although I'm sure the shipping for the sucker...
From the description of where the sound is coming from I'd start looking at the transmission mount and u-joints at the transfercase. Grab the driveshafts and give it all a wiggle. That'll help you home in on the worn part and replace it.
My 94 XJ started having trouble missign and wouldn't start. I replaced the CPS about 4 years ago when I had this same behavior and it fixed it. So I picked up a new one at the Jeep dealer for about a $100 bucks. I was comparing the new Mopar one with the old Kragen Niehoff branded one an noticed...
I picked up a Teraflex knuckle and am happy with it. I upgraded the rear brakes with the Teraflex rear disk brake kit and the braking for me is decent all around. I got the offset Teraflex TRE's and had some tubes fab'd. With the Teraflex knuckle you have to use the Teraflex TRE's or they will...
Take a caliper and measure the outside diameter of the axle tube. That'd get you a dialed in measure measurement to work from. :sunshine:
I did the teraflex rear disk brake upgrade on mine and love it. Mongo stopping power for rock crawling party1:
