How cool is your older XJ's a/c?

'92 running R-12. It's cold cold. Too bad about Freon being such nasty stuff - it sure is a good refrigerant.

Please share photos of your cargo area.

Some new photos of my cargo drawer: It's 3/4" birch ply, screwed and glued, with 250lb slides and some nice pretty aluminum trim :jester: Plenty of room for gobs of tools and some oil bottles: I was tired of the extinguisher getting packed under 900 lbs of camping crap, so while I was at...

    New to NAXJA

Welcome to the family! Cherokees are a great car to learn on - they're simple, pretty straightforward, and parts are relatively cheap.

    2 inch lift

Watch out for the rear shock bolts if your XJ is rusty. Mine were fine, but mine's a Washington car. Also, get yourself a decent set of spring compressors if you want to avoid the hassle of unbolting the control arms. Vatozone has a nice set for ≈$30 that are a lot nicer and less sketchy than...

    Identify this Rim

Got those first wheels on my '92. They look nice all polished up.

    Lift questions???

I think the MJ kit is $1200. Bang-for-the-buck is a pretty relative term, though. Some people (me) are satisfied with a used $100 lift kit that's rattle-canned flat black. Some people would rather pay more for better quality.

    Lift questions???

Rubicon Express is generally considered to be one of the best lifts you can buy. They have a 5.5" kit that fits the MJ.

    31s no lift

I had 30s with no lift and the front rubbed the flares if the suspension was flexed at all. I can't imagine 31s without trimming.

Is there any chance a 96 8.25 is 29 spline

It's possible. '96 is a weird year, where a lot of parts that would become standard on the '97s started to show up. It could very well be 29-spline.

seat belts lock up or no?

So they say. The advantage of the new electronic seatbelt tensioners is they don't just lock, they actually pull the passenger back into the seat. They're typically wired as part of the air bag system, so that when a crash is detected, the passenger is pulled into the seat as tightly as...

seat belts lock up or no?

They no longer have inertial tensioners because they use electronic ones now that are faster, safer, and arguably more reliable. My '92's belts will lock, but it takes a very fast, very sharp pull to get them to do it. I've never experienced it while driving, even with sharp stops.

    Side mouldings

They absolutely will. They're also awesome at removing road tar. One thing to be cautious about however: they have a little metal disc in them that the rubber is bonded to, and as the rubber wears, that disc can be exposed. Not cool. The rubber is slightly translucent, so you can typically...

    Side mouldings

Autobody supply stores typically sell them. Looks like a big gummy eraser on a wheel, and they're absolutely awesome.

    Shooters. What do you carry?

Glock 26. Love the little thing.

    Best modification??

Funny how this changes with territory. I can imagine this being the case in the SW, where you've got more desert and rocks to deal with. Up here, where we've got slick, muddy trails, tree trunks to crawl over, and very often snow, bald tires will get you stuck just about instantly.
