check for vac leak at intake manifold cyl #1 is a common spot for gasket to leak
use carb and choke clean spray area while engine is running a leak will change rpm
pull off your wheel and the drum (if you can) and see if there is something out of place. if the backing plate isn't in the way you should be able to tap the drum off with a hammer
the biggest factor is gonna be whether or not you want the manual. it can be done, i've done it, but it was kind of a pain in the ass. if you don't REALLY want a manual, just replace your auto
