4.2L and 4.0L AMC block, devoid of all accessories...735 lbs.
small block 5.0, 5.8L, 5.7L " " ... 510 lbs.
The 4.2L/4.0L derivitives are actually quite a chunk-a-steel
I think some of you guys are wound a little too tight. Half of what is said in jest on any forum out there becomes "fact" to some....
I was being extremely "tongue in cheek" in that remark, although I don't think it played that way over an electronic medium.
And I still have the opinion that...
I think you just did. I run full sized axles at their intended width, and the vehicle is extremely stable, as offered above.
I was at 10" for approximately 2 months before I removed it. It was experimental from the get go.
I decided after the event of last weekend to just let the 2" go. To...
One of the 4x4 rags is featuring buggy frames that are built already... For the green that you've got in the materials. probably.
Not. I know where you work, and you've got hookups that we dream about.....
Nice work.
I just took a day and dropped the Comanche back to 8" of lift.
Last week, I was out in the "back twenty" and got a little too top heavy for my liking while traversing a particularly steep part of the property. The very back corner of the property is all rocks in a wash gulley that hosts a wet...
I just removed a set of Dakota springs on the rear of the carcass of the "*********".
They consist of the three Dakota bottom springs, ready to bolt to your top XJ spring. I never used the top spring from the Dakota in my application, and they rode excellently for two years they were under...
As I search through the internet, every once in a great while I find something that I just might need to file away for later use.
I've seen 'em for years and always assumed that the Quigleys and Pathfinders of the world used the same old truck/F-150 staples as every other Ford out...
I had an 87 piece that I upgraded to. When I pulled that rig apart, I was able to adapt the 1987 part to the new 1986 Comanche dash . I used the 1986 clip to hold the cable in. Works great, so far.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Ues a Ford 9" :)
I also ran a 1982 Scrambler with a 9" out back. The thing to watch is how much the rear has to be shimmed to line up with the double cardan driveshaft. Too much lift and shims pulls the pinion bearings above the lubrication pool. You can always pull it up on...
Tire size is like opinions.
Some like Eagle will never go past 31" tires....and they go places, too.
I've done the 39.5" thing on an old CJ8 years ago. I really didn't see the difference in clearance. There may have been a clear 5" difference when they were aired down....but I can't remember any...
Quickly, without reading other responses...(sorry if it's been covered already) a single cardan shaft is good to around 15 degrees. After that it starts to eat universals on a frequent basis. Further yet, and it really gets ugly.
So, the double cardan comes into play pretty quickly after...
Re: Re: Ues a Ford 9" :)
As someone who currently runs a 9 incher, I can't reccomend it for anyone running huge lift...now or in the future.
The nine has a low pinion, sometimes up to 2" below what other axles offer.
This can be addressed with a hi-pinion kit from Currie, but you lose the...
:wave1:
I hear you. And believe it or not...I've seen a few of those rocks up close. The one's in NM anyway.
Always wanted to make the trip out to the Hammers while I was out that way. Never made it.
