    blown head need advice?

There's also a company called Clearwater Cylinder Head (727-299-9058 or eBay) that offers a new design casting (not used or rebuilt) that will bolt on.

    blown head need advice?

Yep it is a casting flaw in the head to which Chrysler has so far never admitted fault. So what to do? We've all been there. Human nature makes us tend to not want to have to deal with something as expensive or as labor intensive as a head replacement. So we say to ourselves "OK, I know the...

    XJ as a tow vehicle?

X2 on using a weight distribution system and add to that an anti-sway bar. I own a 2000 XJ (2D, 2WD, Auto) and I use it to tow a 1967 Airstream Caravel (17' hitch ball to rear bumper) that weighs in at about 2400 lbs and 300 lbs hitch weight. I installed a transmission cooler, transmission temp...

    Dielectric grease

Re: DYE Electric grease You can buy crimp connectors that have heat shrink ends. It provides a strong splice and seals the splice. No need for dielectric lube.

    Dielectric grease

Re: DYE Electric grease Use it VERY sparingly. Another good example is to use a little dab in spark plug boots to make the boot easier to remove later. Keep in mind it is non-conductive, so the idea is to keep dirt and corrosion out of connections and to lube the rubber or plastic connectors.

    Dielectric grease

Re: DYE Electric grease Dielectric grease is a silcone-based non-conductive lube. Use it where the electrical contacts may corrode due to exposure to the elements. Good example is where your headlights plug into the wiring harness.

Need advice on replacing XJ driver's door latch

OK, so this was easier that I thought it would be. Start to finish, less than 25 minutes. Didn't even need by girlfriends smaller hands. Note to future readers: keep your other door unlocked. Once you get everything in place you may find that pushing the door button on the outside does not do...

    renix cps bolts

For future readers of this post, when you change the CPS: 1) do it on a cold engine /transmission/ exhaust pipe unless you like roasted right forearm. 2) There is a small plate bolted to the transmission that holds two electrical plugs in place, one is the CPS plug. Remove this plate by its...

Need advice on replacing XJ driver's door latch

Searched, didn't find a "how to" write up on replacing the door latch mechanism on the driver's door. Got the new part from the dealer. Can anyone who has done this job provide some pointers? Any tricks or things to watch out for? Better yet, have I just not found the "how to" write up on this...

    Water Wetter

A few years ago I did a ground-up resto-mod of a '56 MGA. MGAs were/are notorious for overheating in hot climates, especially in stop-and-go traffic. I figure they were designed for English weather and roads of the 1950's, not for the sub-tropics. The guys in my local MG club raved about Water...

Had coolant hose blow off, need advise

After you fully bleed the cooling system, let it cool to a safe temperature, carefully take off the radiator cap (lots of towels over the cap and wear leather garden gloves when you remove it) and run the engine. Check for bubbles coming up. If you notice even a few, it may be an early warning...

Had coolant hose blow off, need advise

Did you bleed the air from the cooling system after the repair? If not, that is your next step. In the future please do not trust your temperature gauge when you are having an overheating event and have lost coolant. Do not keep driving your Jeep, unless you really hate it. As you were seeing...

2wd Front end noise and hub question

Just wanted to put a follow-up post on this thread. Turned out the right front disc brake dust cover shield was rubbing against the brake rotor. The DPO had told me before I bought it he had just replaced the front brakes. Hmmm. Apparently the wrong rotor was installed on the right front. It...

2wd Front end noise and hub question

Ecomike: Kudos on doing an XJ diesel conversion. Several years ago I toyed with the idea of retro fitting a diesel into a '98 XJ, but the numbers didn't work. I also looked at buying one of the Canadian XJ to diesel conversions (they transplanted used diesel engines from wrecked box trucks)...
