Ok thanks that will be my next step. I still need to diagnose this otherwise in 5k miles I'll have the same issues once the newly rotated tires wear down.
UPDATE:
Just got around to addressing this front end shake/wobble issue. I rotated the tires (235's) which only have 6k on them and are only about a year old so this is their first rotation. I checked the psi of the front tires and one was 35 psi and the other was 42psi. Not sure if that...
The last 6 months or so I've developed a slight shake at 55-60mph, Inner Tire Wear on both front tires, and jeep is starting to pull pretty hard to the right. Pulling hard enough that I can't take hands off the steering wheel now and realized I need to address this asap.
First I'm going to...
Thanks for this write-up and well done! I tried to replace mine last year as it has a slow leak which of course drips right down onto the starter. Just curiousity but does anyone know how bad that is for the starter? I mean I know it's not good, but does it significantly shorten the life span...
The only time I've experienced a high idle like that was when I had a major vacuum leak from the power brake booster. This was a long time ago but if I remember correctly I was not able to detect it by spraying starter fluid around in the engine bay and I remember it took me a long time to...
UPDATE:
I finally got around to fixing my leaking fuel tank and once I dropped the tank it was very clear why it would leak from the top. The old vent seals were toast and the Previous owner had just globbed a bunch of RTV all around the two tank vent valves instead of fixing correctly. He used...
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Looks like I'll have to go junkyard hunting. Will check with dead jeeps too, I've had good luck finding things with them on ebay.
Is the 4 wire converter a parts store item or will I have to order one online?
My 96 wasn't equipped with a tow package but I added a heavy duty bumper with frame tie-ins that has a receiver hitch and I would like to tow my small rafting trailer. My initial search has revealed that there is a kit to do this for 98-01 cherokee but not for the older 2nd gens. Has anybody...
PO of my Jeep replaced fuel tank so it's likely the cheapest replacement tank. Here is the description of the valve/grommet kit I bought on Amazon. I'm hoping it's the right one since it says it's aftermarket not OEM?
Aftermarket Fuel Tank Rollover Valve & Grommet
Replace part number:5360058...
UPDATE:
A few nights ago I pulled the Jeep into the garage and started reaching up on top of the tank. I reached up and could feel the tank vent valve that is above and to the left of the fuel pump (on the passenger side) and I could feel that the rubber grommet was basically disentegrated and...
I don't think it's the seam since I watched it leaking from the very top of the tank but that's good to know.
So I guess I'll probably just replace the tank? I'm going to have to drop it to diagnose and if it's something that I can't readily fix I don't want to have to do it twice.
Thanks...
So on mine the fuel pump and sending unit are all one assembly and install on the side of the tank (I just replaced both last winter) and I verified that's not where the leak is coming from. I could see it dripping down from somewhere on the very top of the tank. I know some 96 models had a...
My '96 XJ has a gas leak coming from the top of the tank. When I fill it up it leaks, especially if sloshed around on bumpy or steep roads or if parked on uneven ground. As the tank gets lower it's not a problem.
Where could it be leaking from the top? My FP is mounted on the side and is not...
