Jeep Cherokee best years / problem areas

U-joints & wheel bearings for sure.... Only good thing about them is you can replace them yourself. Had to do both on my '98 that has less than 80,000mi... Just get good quality wheel bearings unless you like to do the job twice... don't ask me how I know! regards, jlex.

Need help removing front hub....its frozen on there!

First thing, make sure all three bolts are OFF, not just loosened (don't ask how I know that) Saturate the hub/dust shield area where they meet w/ PB Blaster. Hit hub a few times w/ a hammer. Last, put the tire back on & give the lug nuts just a few turns. Pull tire away from wheel sharply...

    WTF? Coolant leak- HELP

Pay close attention to the torque requirements on the head bolts. If you don't have a torque wrench... time to get one. regards, jlex.

    Rough Idle

Spray that carb cleaner around the intake manifold, too... not just the vacuum lines. jlex.

    engine stalling

When my old jeep did that, I found out it had a bad vacuum leak... needed lots of engine speed to make up for the lost vacuum. Take a look at your vacuum lines & maybe spray a little carb cleaner around suspicious leak areas to see if it affects the engine speed thus locating the leak. regards...

    mileage tips

Do a search on Ford Injectors. Apparently, everyone raves about the 19 lb. Ford injectors. They supposedly have a better spray pattern (4 holes instead of one) so they're more efficient. Deals can be had on Ebay. In a higher mileage jeep like yours, I'll bet they're the solution you're...

    mileage tips

I thought I had read somewhere on this forum that swapping out the injectors to smaller Ford injectors will help lots with mileage... I know there's a list of compatible Ford and Chevy injectors... uh, it's here: http://www.arizonaxj.com/tech/InjectorInfo.html I'd like to hear from someone who's...

"Gurgling/bubbling" sound coming from fuel tank?

Here you go: SYMPTOM/CONDITION: A rattling, knocking or gurgling noise may be present coming from inside the fuel tank. The noise can usually be heard with the tank between 3/4 and full. The noise may be the anti-siphon check ball moving in the filler neck. DIAGNOSIS: This noise can be hard...

A/C compressor squeeks on start up

Did you get any oil on the belt when working on it... or did your AC compressor throw some fluid onto it? How old is the belt... maybe its glazed over. Why not take some denatured alcohol to the belt to see if that makes a difference before doing anything else... regards, jlex.

    Jeep Commander

They need to bring back the "woody" model to really make a splash. At least its introduction will keep our XJ's from looking too dated. jlex.

    crank-crank-crank-crank-cra... [wait...] crank-crank-START!

On my '98 there's a check valve on the fuel pump & on the filter/regulator. Someone posted that if they go bad, you can get an in-line check valve to keep the pressure in the line for the next startup. May want to search check valve. I think they said they used a BMW in line check valve. jlex.

Get One Thing Fixed Another Happens

Don't worry about the punctuation... at least you're using English. If it's been ridden on the Beach, do yourself a favor & kill the rust before it ruins your car. Clean the underside the best you can, then buy a quart of POR15 & paint it over the rust so the car doesn't fall apart from under...

Snake Oil...Vodoo or a good thing..??

If you're going on a trip & will blow a tank of gas out in one fell swoop, don't use Techron. It's supposed to be most effective when it can work slowly on carbon & other deposits by sitting overnight & gradually working between gas fill-ups. Also, they recommend an oil change after you use it...

Do you guys like body-colored or black bumpers?

Color bumpers are too high maintenance. Just put 2 coats of color & 3 coats of clear on my rear bumper (dark amethyst pearl) & color sanded to fix where the PO was apparently jumping up & down on it. Now I'll have to clear coat the front because of the bugs next spring. I don't know what they...

    Jeep running rough...

If it's running rough at load, is the engine getting enough fuel when it needs it? Next step would be to check the gas pressure at the fuel rail to make sure it's getting enough. jlex.
