    Fiberglass floor repair

I haven't found anything about this doing searches... Is it acceptable to repair holes in the floor up to 4" diameter with fibreglass, or does it have to be a weld in repair? Thanks, Geoff

    CV (double cardan) rebuild/goof

You aren't heating the driveshaft, you are heating the bearing race. Quickly heating and quenching a bearing race causes it to contract, and it falls out. Alternately, you can use a slide hammer. Lock the yoke in a vise, and slide hammer the bearing race out. FWIW, I've removed tons of...

    CV (double cardan) rebuild/goof

Removing the ball: Clamp the yoke in a vice. Use a fairly large pry bar with a tapered end. Stick it in the center of the ball and pry it out. Removing the outer bearing race, between the ball and the yoke: Don't mess with cutting, chiseling, etc. You run a significant risk of wrecking the...

Rim choice for 31's and 2.5-3" lift

I'm running a small lift, and want to get as much flex out of it as I can. Are the factory rims the best option? Can you stuff a rim with 4.5" backspace? As stated, I'll be running 31's. Thanks. Geoff

Dana 44 brakes vs 8.25 brakes

Yes sir, counted the splines... 27 of them on both sides :) So, are there any down sides to the D44? Is it hard to plumb the brakes? Are brake parts stupid expensive? Thanks! Geoff

Dana 44 brakes vs 8.25 brakes

'96 XJ, 31's, SYE, 3" lift. Been running this for about 3 years. I was ready to begin a disc brake conversion on my 27 spline 8.25. A local junkyard has an XJ Dana 44 for $200. How good are the brakes on a D44? Should I do the disc swap on my 8.25, which is in great shape, or go for the D44...

    Leaf shackle and pinion angle

Is there a rule of thumb regarding a lift shackle and pinion angle? For example would 1" of lift from a shackle cause a 2 degree change in pinion angle? thanks for any help.

Popping noise coming from underneath foot

A couple of possibilities, from my experience. Trackbar noise will be transmitted through the floor and felt at your feet, as you describe. Check everything with your trackbar. I've installed one while the front suspension was drooped, and got this noise because the bar wasn't properly...

    When to upgrade steering gear??

Well, if 35's can't wear it out, my 31's won't. I can get a PSC reman for the price of a Dakota junkyard box around here. Thanks. Geoff

    When to upgrade steering gear??

Hi, What is the common thinking for when a steering gear upgrade is needed? I will be running 31" MT's on 3" of lift doing mild to moderate wooded trails. Any daily driving will be largely highway, and little city driving. 4.0 engine, and no winch as yet. It took 11 years to wear out my...

    Brake pad glides

SOOORRRRY. I thought I still had the vehicle info in my sig. It's a '96 4x4 sport. The pads are starting to where into the anchor. Geoff

    Brake pad glides

On the front brakes of my Cherokee there are no brake pad glides. The pads sit directly on the cast steel caliper anchor. I'm used to seeing shiny steel glides for the brake pads to slide smoothly on on other vehicles. Is this normal for Cherokees? Geoff Just got oto Rock Auto's website...

    Goodyear MT/R

A local guy is selling a used set of MT/R's. Two are new, and 2 are 50%. The price is really good. Now I know why. Can't replace the 50% ones in a year's time. Oh well, they are only a 31" tire. I guess I could always replace them with TreadWrights when they wear out.

    Goodyear MT/R

Has the Goodyear MT/R that was used as stock equipment on Rubicons been discontinued? I've checked a few local shops and a couple of online stores and all I'm finding are the new MT/R Kevlar tires. Thanks. Geoff
