Check the idler pulley bearings. I had one that dried up on me and made a loud high pitch whine at idle. If you have a mechanic's stethoscope it'll help you pinpoint the noise.
Why bother with making a 4.0 high compression? Your gains will be minimal unless you invest in many other parts and pieces. With 10:1 pump gas will be out of the question for you unless you live on top of a mountain somewhere. If your going to tear down the bottom end, why not build a stroker...
Interesting, I initially thought I had gotten a set of bad lifters and replaced them hoping the noise would go away. Nope. It was still there and I began suspecting spring pressure. Did you have the springs installed at 1.8"? I had my seats cut to comp's spec of 1.8" (110lbs). I also had some...
Oil and ZDDP is definitely a big issue. I think another overlooked aspect of these cam failures is the pressure that the springs are actually installed at. In my experience this motor does not need much more than stock spring pressures to run with Comp or other aftermarket cams. Upon installing...
I used Purolator pure one filters in the past and they seemed to be restrictive. I lost 10-20psi overall. I changed to WIX after reading decent test results etc.. Here's some good reading info for y'all.

You should start by checking compression in all cylinders to help rule out mechanical problems. If the spark is good, trace all vaccum lines and inspect for leaks, is the cap and rotor in good shape? Are you getting a "check engine" light in the dash? Another good bet could be the injectors...
I used the Comp recommended 926 springs with the 68-232-4 cam 460in 476ex lift. The springs were installed at the recommended 1.8". I ended up with alot of valvetrain noise. It was ticking at idle and got progressively louder as the rpms increased and was clearly audible inside cab while...
Make sure the plug wires are routed correctly, check all of the vaccuum lines especially the one to the MAP sensor. Check your fuel pressure. Did they pull the distributor out for some reason? If so It may be indexed incorrectly. Just keep narrowing variables until you find the problem. It's...
Check your lifter preload first. It may have been altered due to differences in the roller setup from stock rockers. Are you running them on a stock cam?
