    NP242 Transfer Case Tech

This is the most useful thread I've seen on the 242. Thank you. After weeks of reading through forum posts (some over 50 pages!), I still don't have an answer to a basic question, but I feel like the author of this thread would know. You will sometimes find people saying the V8-WJ version...

    Winch free spool?

I had my HS9500 rebuilt and it was even HARDER to freespool. The shop that did it said "it's the nature of HS winches w/ the double planetary system and all". Having two planetary sets sounded funny to me, but whatever. I'm a skinny dude, but strong, and it takes almost all my effort to pull...

    greasable shackles

On the right track maybe. Could likely be the slip pads (whatever they are called) between each leaf, too. I would to a little test and when it's squeaking real bad. Take and use a pry bar and pull each leaf end away a little and shoot some WD-40 in there on one side or both. Sound still...

RE Superflex arms and drop brackets...the source of my front end noise?

I know mine is shot. What is an economical fix?

Cant seem to find an answer. RE Superflex question.

Call them directly. THIS IS AS EXPICIT AS I CAN GET: On the lower CA there is a flex joint at the axle end, and a rubber bushing at the rear (body) end. The replace the ONLY RUBBER BUSHING on that lower CA, you need p/n RE3761 "Super-ride Assembly Large". To do both sides you need 2. On the...

Cant seem to find an answer. RE Superflex question.

Not quite sure which end (axle or body) you are referring to. But if you are asking about the body side of the lower CA then: YES - there are poly replacements for them & and yes they use the stock size bushings available at the parts store. On the RE website they are (were) listed. My shot...

    driving on front axle

There should be no issues with your t-case. Since you have the SS kit no fluid will puke out. The problem I had is, depending on amount of lift, driving around on the front shaft with the slip yoke fairly extended put a lot of stress on the engaged splines and pretty much took it's life from...

RE Superflex arms and drop brackets...the source of my front end noise?

I have knocks, pops, squeaks, jiggles, thuds, grinding, screams, oozing, thumps, and growls coming from the front end. I have the ED RE with drop brackets and adjustable CA's. I found one of my pops to be a adjusting nut on the control arm not cranked down nice and tight. And it was actually...

I searched.... and another doorless thread begins

Re: no, not a new thread - keep your pants on THis was a good source, and I'm glad I did a search before I started a new thread (so I didn't get flamed) to ask the same question for a pre-97. I was thinking of doing the exact same thing as the link posted above so I can quickly switch between...

    extended yoke

Agreed. I impressed you can actually run 5" of lift on a totally stock d-shaft?!?!?! Holy crap!

Anyone use a winch power disconnect?

Check out this link for how I did a disconnect, why, and part numbers. It might be what you are looking for in the long run...way better than welding connections. http://www.ultimatejeep.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=8238.html

    spool

This makes a lot of sense. I welded my 8.8 also, but did not weld the spiders to the case...just filled in some of the vacant teeth on the spiders/side gears to keep 'em from rotating....still has a bit of play until it catches (that bad?). Wish I woulda thought about the distributing the load...

    Manual/Automatic AWshifter

Two simple questions Brett that I have not found anywhere or have over looked them. This is assuming that the AW4 is in a stock vehicle as I would install it: 1. What position does the stock shift selector have to be in? What if you switch your AW unit to 1 and the stock selector to 3(or other...

8.25 with factory 4.10 gearing, does this exist?

!!!!!!I have a newer 29 spline 8.25, 4.10 ratio out of an XJ for $300. It is in Illinois though. No 8.25 from a XJ is ABS. I also have a 1,000 mile used Powertrax no-slip locker for it as well. Do not buy a 8.25" pre-97, they are nearly as inferior as the Dana 35. The XJ Dana 44 is a rip off...
