I fought this problem for a while till i found that there are two flashers,one for 4 way and one for turn signals.I know it's simple but be sure you have changed the correct one.
just a thought,have you checked the fuel for water?With the alcohol that is in most fuel these days it doesn't take long for some to collect.We see it often in the shop I work in.You can pump a small amount in a glass jar and let it settle for a while for a visual or there are meters for that.

I am buying a 97 with a bad head and already have a 89 parts rig with a good head.Also have heard of bad castings in the 94-97 heads so if it will work I would like to use the 89 head.
Sounds like cat is starting to clog,raw fuel will start to melt interals.Try unbolting the cat and see if it runs better.The smell is a good indicator of this problem.
Just had one in with this problem.After much researh I found the prolem to be a small brass jump conection in the fuse block that supplied power from one junction to another.It was on the right side about half way up.If need be I will try to get pic's later.I found this by checking for power at...
JB weld not so much.I have had to drill the housing and thread in a larger stud .On some I was able to just thread in next size larger metric stud without tapping.Worth a try and for sure better than JB.
