Yeah, mine has cruise as well. but if the later model matched up, I see no reason the earlier models wouldn't either. I'll be glad to hear from someone with an older one, though.
I have a big quandary on my mind. I recently had my '96 XJ broken in to and the steering column torn up to the point of needing to be replaced. My jeep does not have tilt steering (or so I thought), and the shop I took it to said the non-tilt column would cost more to order in as they are...
I'm taking the Jeep to a local garage this weekend to get the steering column fixed up. Just need to get the heap to drive again.

Just went out to try and start it up. The mechanical parts move like they should. I can place the key cylinder into the ignition switch and turn it, but there's no power to the column. I won't be going anywhere.

I got in the dash and found the answer, there was a secondary harness adapter between the stereo and the jeep's wiring harness. This combined the rear speaker lines to the front speaker lines. I took it out as there is a limit on space inside, and my after market stereo is unusually deep, and...
