Got it. One of the latches had clicked itself shut. For anyone that's wondering I did end up getting an oem water pump and returning the aftermarket. There was a huge difference in the build. The casting was totally different shapewise. There was also a much bigger gap between the pump body...

What's the lifespan of a harmonic balancer on an xj? Mine is a 99 and it has the original and the rubber is cracked but other than that I don't see any problems. Well I have the radiator out and some room should I be doing my harmonic balancer or can these last a lifetime of the vehicle?

Nope.

It looks like there's a small amount of oil on the bolt and possibly weeping from the lower water pump bolt on my 99 XJ. Does it require a thread sealant or some RTV sealant?
