Who has the highest Miles on an OEM 4.0L...no head/cylinder work.

87 AW4 4.0, only thing I've done mechanical-wise is change the transfer case pressure switch, and today I changed out the TPS. 277,000 miles on the clock, and all of a sudden it's a completely diferent truck. You can't kill these things, at least not if you take care of them.

    Ideas for mega front bumper

I'm kind of rethinking the mega-bumper approach, and the plastic bumper approach in retrospect sounds retarded. I don't plan to hit herds of deer at once at 200 mph, and it would be cool to have a bumper that would spit a deer off the side of the truck, but I've realized that at any substantial...

    Ideas for mega front bumper

I just had a thought, it's surely stupid, but would it not be a good way to protect the truck from impact and not buckle the framerails if I built a "bumper cover" double tube bumper out of 4" PVC? It might sound stupid, but it would absorb impact without the force reaching the framerails or...

    Ideas for mega front bumper

I get what you mean about transferring energy, there could be some serious framerail damage with a blunt impact like that, whic is why I was king of thinking cow catcher like on trains, it deflects to the sides, cutting the angle of the impact and greatly reducing the force to the front...

    Ideas for mega front bumper

I recently whacked a deer with my sweet 98 S10, subsequently doing $2500 of damage, a hair away from totaling it. So, since it's becoming "hit a deer" season around here in VA, I'm finishing my XJ for street use. I don't want to destroy the front end of the Jeep the next time I hit a deer (I'm...

    Wet Trunk/Hatch Under Carpet

update on the leaks: I took a sander/grinder and ground out all of the rust spots all over the floor. I had rust under the daggone rubber caulk seals in the floor to wall corners, so I ripped the caulking out and ground the rust to shiny metal. I wasn't happy with the results yet, so I used an...

    Wet Trunk/Hatch Under Carpet

Man, i have taken all the carpet out of my 87, all the seats, sanded the floor and repainted the floor. Figured out that the puddle in the pass. side floor was from the heater core seals leaking so I caulked the crap out of them and when it dried no more leak. Next day i had a puddle again, so...

87 XJ - to repair or scrap?

I've got an 87 myself. Mine has 268k on it, never rebuilt, uses no oil, thee things don't die. About the 4wd lever, mine was the same way when I got it. There is a switch (looks like a sensor or something) on the back of the transfer case, with 4 vaccum hoses in it, replace that. I went...

    Just overheated, (very long)

Thanks, guys, I think I'll try to find the correct tank now, the one I have is completely different shaped, with a regular pressure cap on it. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will. I drove the truck today for about 20 miles, and it never went past the line before the 210 mark, (app...

    Just overheated, (very long)

ok, I pulled off the top radiator hose and low and behold the radiator was really low on water, so I filled it with the garden hose and filled the radiator hose, still attached to the water neck, propped upright, and since I have a Prestone flush & fill installed in the top hose, I filled the...

    Just overheated, (very long)

How would I go about checking the water level at the radiator, would I take the top hose off, it's a closed system with no radiator cap on the radiator. Thanks for the help, i didn't think about that, i figured I'd add water to the purge tank since it's the only thing with a cap, that makes...

    Just overheated, (very long)

I have an 87 xj with 4.0, bone stock except for lack of muffler and 2" lift with 31's. I was just on my way home down the back roads and noticed the temp gauge was getting a bit too high. It usually runs at 200-210 at highway speed, has new hoses, new 190 thermostat 100 miles ago, yes it is in...

So, how fast have you gone?

Back a few years back, my (now) wife and I were coming home from..bowling in my resto/custom 79 Mustang. A friend of mine and his girl were following us in his very modded 87 Mustang GT. Mine had a Boss 302 with a Holley 500 2bbl pushing about 325hp on a good day, his a Edelbrock everything...

    All hail the mighty XJ!

S10 is a 98. I would love to have the wipers working correctlyg, it's a good truck as well, and I think the defrost problem is a bad water pump, it only heats up when I run high revs. I'll Google the problem and see what comes up.

    All hail the mighty XJ!

Man, I love my Jeep! The wipers on my S10 don't work half the time, and neither does the Defrost. We had a torrential downpour here in Suffolk, VA this morning when I was getting ready for work, so I decided to drive my Xj instead. (it's not registered or inspected) The big Cherokee came...
