Little Red

good day at the pull a part.

got me the drawtite hitch I was going to recreate. It will need one new sideplate. So I'll have to have that cut, but after that we can make copies.

with the side plates you'd just need a step bumper receiver and tube to DIY.
dome lights
tailgate latch
tail lights
inner fender bits, all the splashshields and the rear flares.

there's nothing useable that's sheetmetal, but it's a good source of my missing bits.

I secretly hate you a little for finding such a clean MJ and short bed. It is awesome that you've made it a nice clean daily driver, I would certainly sport it.

I got lucky.

It's still pretty ugly, but it has tons of potential.

"Do Not Exceed Manu. Recommended Towing Capacity" Is what Ive got stamped on the bumper.

I lied.
I noticed yesterday that the 91 with same bumper as mine was stamped 200/2000
Mine is also stamed 200/2000

I'm going to see if HDOffroad wants to make some sideplates and copy the drawtite. If you had the plates the rest of the fab would be pretty straight forward. It's just a piece of box tube and the adapter to bolt to the bumper.

Anyone we can get to reproduce should make a couple quick bucks. I noticed a shop today along the lines of "Mikes Ball Hitches"... even a local shop like that I would think could benefit from reproducing a hitch, especially if people like us spread the news.

brian wasn't interested.
I'm going to hit up the local metalworking place. My buddy runs the waterjet. If I can get the setup charges waived on buddy deal then it may work out. otherwise I'm going to reproduce it myself just to fix mine, I will make measurements available.

well, been a while since the last update. I've not done anything but drive this thing around and use it.
I have gathered nearly all of the parts to axle swap it. Need to buy new 44 shafts $$$$$ and then that can get done.

went old man

last week this was my worst averaged tank. A pitiful 20 MPG, but I did have about 300 lbs worth of tools in it for 3 days last week, and I did tow a boat. I've been averaging 22 for my weekly commute/daily driving.

oh, and it does 0-60 in 9.69 seconds. Probably could a bit faster, but I'm allergic to the redline.

in the furtherance of pretty ricky being my do all old man pickup truck, it needed trailer wiring to tow boat.

so, pop out your drivers tail light

find the blue (parking lamp) and the grey/black stripe (left turn/stop) and hack them up. I use nothing but the heatshrink adhesive weatherproof butt connectors and a facny crimper, cause I don't like doing things twice.

Hook those up. Then go ahead and grind all the paint off for your chassis ground and clean him up well.

I hacked off the factory ring terminal because it wasn't weatherproof, put them both in there and sealed it up. Dielectric grease on the screw and under the washer, topcoated with liquid vinyl. make sure to clean all the surrounding paint so the vinyl seals.

Run it along the same path as the factory harness

and pick up the right stop/turn (brown, not brown with a stripe, that's backup) just where the body harness pops out of the rear trim piece. You can make this all real pretty with a bit of planning.

loom up the license plate wires that AMC left exposed.....

and pop it out the middle.

if you do it right it will self stow up above with just a push and a tuck next to the factory loom.

some eye bolts for the safety chains

make sure you adjust them so the trailer won't drag, or eat your rust free tailgate

hook it up and be done.

perhaps the single most important thing I did today:
IMG_20140823_125147_815_zpsb8sq01js.jpg

nope, cause it's just a door key.

so I still can't go anywhere if I've lost the set.
mostly I just lock them in the truck, so this will keep me from crawling through the 3rd window twice a month.

That's why I go by Home Depot on the way home and have 3 keys cut… two rubber handle for the main and spare key rings, one flat metal for my wallet. The original goes in the folder with the title.

Reminds me, I need to get some Subaru keys duped now. No transponder fortunately.

I'd really like to find some NOS AMC keys.

cause I'm stupid like that.

slight upgrade to old man boat.

yes, that's full weight on pretty ricky. I had to raise he drop leg so I could put something under it. it was already sinking into the dirt.

Didn't sag as much as I thought

Yes, next summer I intend to tow that boat with this truck.
No, I'm not concerned with it, and you shouldn't be either.
