2000 XJ - Daily Driver/Expedition Build

Very Nice! I installed the same kit f/the same person. :) I still have the ZJ prop valve sitting on my work bench but have yet to install it going on ~ 1 year. If you install the ZJ prop valve and notice a big difference let me know.

I LOVE this mod and it has some of the best results of any other mods I've done to an XJ.

Brian had this to say about it..

Put my longer brake lines on today and the ZJ prop valve guts. I used GM brake lines that were about 3" longer than stock. They needed a little bit of modifying to make them work but it wasn't a big deal. Regarding the ZJ prop valve, I can actually feel the rear brakes working and there is less front end drop under hard braking. Overall, I'm satisfied and wish I would have done it sooner.

I plan on doing mine asap... Or I might just swing by my brake shop and have them do it while I read a book.

:laugh3:

Interesting. If doing the ZJ prop valve swap would help w/front end nose-dive on hard braking I may have to rethink not doing it. I have had to do a few panic stops and notice the front end of my '01 XJ still dives a lot harder than other vehicles... I just chalked it up to the nature of the XJ. However, if this would help then I may have another project to do this weekend. :)

JKS quick discos
Bilstein shocks

I leveled out the front to back... maybe a touch higher in the front but better than the stinkbug stance.
Also tinted the windows..

Thanx for the pic. The hood would work for what I need, but damn I don't want to spend that much for a new one of those.

Have you seen any difference in cooling with the cowl hood?

You can't buy them anymore Talyn. Someone told me they called the company and the literally broke the mold and aren't investing in a new one to reproduce them.

It has been running at 200-202 and its a humid 95º out. It does help let the heat escape after its parked too.

Interesting with the back plate bolts. We did the swap (with the same kit) on my friend's Silver 2000 XJ with a 8.25. And were able to use the stock bolts and wheel studs.
Used the ZJ park brake cable that came with it, and for passenger ordered/used the KJ pass brake cable.

I tried the ZJ cable but found it too long on the driver side.. I've heard folks using the KJ on the pass too.. just doubling a loop to take up the slack. My setup has a looong pull and now seems to be not as tight as I want.. I may have to revisit it.

Looks great, Tony! So clean and I bet it rides great too!
Thanks! Yep, see does pretty well down the road..even at 70. That was my goal.

Tony - if you're going to seriously wheel or tow, consider a gear controller for the transmission.
Here's the one I used:

Here's a thread where I(and a couple others) installed them way back when.

Highly recommend this mod.
Thanks for the tip!

Just read through your entire build. You do amazing work, super clean XJ done right.
Appreciate it.

Sweet build up! Just read through your whole deal and love the rear brake setup, might have to look into those if I jump up to 33's one day. Thanks for sharing everything and what a super clean setup for a XJ, I'm totally jealous!!

That looks great! Nice work!

IMO rear discs are required even for 31's.. either that or my drums were not working at all. The factory setup is just so horrible, I can't imagine it on 33's. Thanks for your comments...

Nice clean build, can I ask where you found the hood? Has it helped with engine bay temps?
Both of these questions were already covered in this thread.
