Hello there, i have a 98 xj 2wd, its getting cold out...kinda and i dont know why my heater doesnt blow hot/warm air when turned on, not really worried about my a/c it doesnt blow cold air either but thst just might need a recharge i dont know no biggie, but im confused as to why im not getting heat when im trying to use it, no threads on this so i figured id ask and see what i get, thank you and happy holidays.

You don't really say it, but it sounds like your blower isn't working at all. With the blower speed control knob on high, and the function knob not on off. Have you checked any fuses? That is the first thing to check. If all fuses are good, check at the blower motor plug for 12 juice with a voltmeter or test light.

Sounds like a blend door issue. I'd try to verify the blend door is operating normally. We don't have a heater control valve in our 98 so you're dealing with a blend door in the dash.

What's the fix for the blend door? I've been getting poor heat in my 98 also, but I flushed the heater core today and it came out quite clean. I'm pretty sure my heater core is alright. I'm really hoping there's a blend door fix that doesn't involve removing the entire dash like the heater core replacement.

I think that you can get to the blend door lever from under the dash to see if you can manually get it to move or not. If it's stuck, it broken inside. Somebody used to have a kit on ebay where you could cut into your housing and fix it without pulling the dash apart.

ok so... it seems to be the blend door, and no theres not really a way to get to it w/o pulling the dash, i am currently doing so will finish in the morning hopefully with results and will post them, extra info if you switch from a/c to heater i.e the middle knob you should hear the blend door activate, on mine i have not heard it, i have flushed my heater core and tryed to burp system and no luck as well as not heard the blend door when doing earlier mentioned check ( turning from a/c to heat middle knob) thus the reason why im checking my blend door. wish me luck!

The middle knob (Mode Selector) doesn't control the Blend-Air Door, the Temp Selector (Red/Blue band) knob does.

The '98 XJ uses a cable to control the blend door. Stuff yourself down into the passenger
leg well and look up (near to the center dash), and you be able to see where the cable
attaches to a bellcrank. That bellcrank should move as you rotate the Temperature control.
I've seen that blend door repair kit on eBay, FYI.
