I have never had to remove my 2000 door panels and honestly after owning it for 6 years I guess that's a miracle LOL!

Anyway, I'm trying to get the passenger side door panel off and I think the switch panel cover has to come off but I can get it without thinking its going to break. Also, how do you get the lock/latch rods loose?

Here is a pic of the panel that I need to get off. I think there is another screw under there.

I'm at work and don't have my '01 Xj with me so I can't speak to the number of screws, although I know the switch panel comes off with the door cards.

In regards to the latch rods, there should be colored plastic hooks on one end near where the rods seat into their holes. These hooks pivot and "unsnap." Then when you reattach, you slide the rods into their holes and then "snap" the colored plastic hooks back over the rod.

Door cards?

Yes I got how the rods attach but the lever plate doesn't come out of the door panel like on the 96- XJ's. So how do I get to the lock/lever rods?

I have the door panel loose but there is screw under the switch plate holding it. How do I get the switch plate off without cracking it etc.

I got it.

Some how I missed the third screw on the handle. The old XJ's only have two then the handle comes off. The 97+ has 3 screws and the handle, switches, lever all come off with the panel.

Much easier once you figure it out DUH!
