Project Olive Drab

Just ordered the new Brushable seam sealer from Eastwood. Figure this would be easier than the tube style for over the welds.

Had i known better i could have used the tube with a small bead between the overlapping parts of the floor. I'll just weld the bottom as well and undercoat well.

Eastwood sells this on ebay for $5 cheaper (19.99) and 4.95 shipping.

You can typically find good quality 3M seam sealer at either Car Quest or NAPA. Ask the local body shop guys where they get theirs when they need a tube fast.

Seam sealer will work fine for weld burn through, however it tends to stay pliable. If you want something that will get hard use an epoxy like JB Weld

My thoughts exactly Eric... that was the largest part i had to patch. The weather has some rain in it with a few free days, i should get the rest welded up soon enough. Then seal and undercoat.

Well, the day has come. Tomorrow i start pulling parts from the XJ. I just lost any interest in repairing and chasing rust.

Quite a few parts will eventually find their way to my ZJ project, i'll start a thread on that here if there is any interest.

Yea, let's see it.

I'll do a thread here as well as NAGCA. Last night i went to a fellow NAXJA members place and picked up some more items i had purchased. Most of the body parts i picked up will actually go to the wifes ZJ then painted, i did an interior refresh on hers last summer.. the body needs some lovin.

Hell yeah there is interest! Project Olive Drab was a nice build. can't wait to see your ZJ when its done.

Thanks Flex...

It's about ready for inspection, just waiting (2.5 weeks now) for a pair of headlight adjusters so i can install the pass side headlight.

Just gave it a bath and snapped a pic, thought i'd share as it sits now. A bit more maintenance as i aquire a few more parts and remove some from the XJ and it'll get it's lift later this summer.

I do not see the reason for cutting it up...didn't look that bad, at all.

R.I.P ... That was a fine XJ project in it's prime. I don't quite understand your logic on cuttin' it up as it would have still been a good beater project to thrash about in. If not you..someone else. Good luck on your project ZJ look forward to seeing the transformation into.......:)

EPIC!!!!!:yelclap:

I just read this WIP front to back, and what a suprise ending. I never thought I'd see it go from beat up, to winning car shows, to getting cut up and thrown away. awesome, just awesome.

We'll probably not see a build thread that follows that course in a long time.

Soooo... olive drab causes your jeep to end up gettin cut up and scrapped? Is that what's to be learned from this build? Wtf

if it followed the path of most OD vehicles it would end up lifted by a forklift, bending both driveshafts, then scavenged for parts and sold for 5 cents on the dollar on GSA/govliquidation
