dana 30 LCA skid weld on

its just a piece of 3/16" plate. easy enough to make. not much to installation either.

what kind of review were you looking for? installation will depend on your welder and abilities. finish will depend on what paint you chose if any. and itll be stronger than the mount originally was.

i was just wondering if anyone had bought this set up and installed them and their impressions.
i have a lincoln 100V mig welder that would be just enough to get the job done, but i was thinking i could make these on my own also.

You could make them, but good luck bending 1/4" steel to fit correctly. I have the Currie skids I think and they work fine. One of the first mods I did over 3 years ago and never had to touch them after. My friend welded them on with a 110V mig and he was just learning how to weld at that point.

I cut some Plate and just did one bend on each skid, put it in a vice, and hammered untill it met the axle tube. welded it on.. $2 worth of steel.. 30 minutes to measure once and cut twice..

FWIW.. i used 1/8th plate.. they've been hammered pretty hard, but 3/16ths would have been proffered

i made my own as well... 1/4". i had the metal lying around. i didnt bother with the bend because in all honesty my jeep doest see that much use in the rocks. i didnt think of the BFH method NW-ZJ-SCOTT used though, wish i did.

on a side note, be weary about welding strait to the mounts. the bends in the side of the LCA mini skids are there for a reason. upon install, i found that my RE arms didnt fit, and i had to cut my welds then open up the mini skid a bit. so, be sure to check clearance:

I thought about that as i was burning them on.. I got lucky.. Witch, I chalk up to thinner plate, also due to the fact mine dont go all the way down..

fwiw why bother with the stock control arms mounts if you plan on "beefing" them up , not worth it IMO..
If you plate the bottom it will most likely cause the stock mounts to tear off the tube or crush the sides.

instead of two welds holding the mount on, it's now welded completely boxed and welded to the tube.. I'm not going to say your wrong, i just fail to see your logic?:spin1:

your right.. the rocks here dent things.. the rocks there rust them until they fall off.

IIIN THE BLUE CORNER, THE WEST!

& IIIN THE RED CORNER, THE EAST!!

...will this debate ever end??... rocks are solid & hard, no matter where on earth u are...

Very true!.. I'm say the stock thin sheetmetal mounts just dont cut it offroad, the fold like paper!

i have a big sheet of 1/8 steel laying around, proabbly 4ft by 4ft, do you think 1/8 is enough, my jeep is
2.5 lift, 30 BFG AT tires, (upping to 31s soon) JK shocks, WJ control arms, skids etc. i dont do rocks per say... but i have noticed that these are inherrently weak. although christmas is coming and the price of the zone kit is decent enough for a stocking stuffer... maybe i will put it on the list..
