U joint Q's for superior alloys????

Bought an MJ with superior alloy shafts in the front HP 30. The guy said that there was OX u joints in the front. I've never seen OX before but they are beefy looking, But one has a broken cap and they both have some play.(apparently the PO didn't own a grease gun).

Ive searched a little on this but didnt find alot.

Do the alloys take the same u joints as stock shafts? Are the OX's a good choice (couldnt find the part on their website). Or should i look into something else?

thanks NAXJA

I believe the ujoints will be the same as stock. I am suprised they don't have replacement caps on the website. Maybe you can call them. I am not sure but it seems their ujoints have a bushing inside the cap that can be replaced. If the cross is still good then you should be able to replace the caps.

YEA thats what it says on ox's website. So 760's it is. Were does everybody get them from? Will the hillrod behind the counter at autozone be able to pull em off the shelf?

The guys at OX just laughed when I called asking for parts for my ujoints. I didn't even bother to look for anyone to take the trunions or center crosses when I took them out of my shafts. No sense encouraging anyone to run them, so I threw them away. (sadly it was just the bronze races that were worn out)

Screw those guys...I put in Spicer 760 joints in my 44 axles. I don't know of an axle manufacturer who won't warranty their shafts using Spicer joints and full circle clips.

were the ox u joints a PITA to get out?

i cant believe they won't sell parts. That turns me away from that company(not that i could afford their stuff anyway lol)

I had to fashion a puller of my own, but it was the only way to get them apart. I just replicated what they sold so I could get the things out.

do you have a pic of the puller you used? i am a machinist so i can make one fairly easy but not grasping how they work by ox's written instructions.

thanks
