Show me your Rack!....Roof Rack that is

Uh! You know that you can buy preformed EMT 90's, right? Plastic on a roof rack? Go the Top Hat Rack, 500lb rating, and they hold a boat load of gear. Make sure to seel all the joints.

Yeah I think I might get a top hat. It cost $400, but it looks Bad Ass. Plus it has mounts for lights on the front and back. Its the only one I could fins that actually fills up the whole roof.

I have the Top Hat on my 96. It's been on the rig for 6 years and has held up very well. Gutter mounted so you don't have to poke holes in the roof. Light monunt tabs front and rear. The side rails work really nice in the trees, I know they have saved me from body damage. I buit a simple t-bar to mount the tire. I usually have a high lift mounted along the drivers side of the rack.

i have a top hat too, with my high lift and spare tire on top, i have been on the roof and i am 235 lbs, didnt really flex at all. ill upload pictures tomorrow

Good looking rig. What bumper and steering is that?

Bumper is by TNT Customs and the steering is one ton GM over the knuckle.

Dude that rack looks sweet on your rig. i will most likely be getting that one for mine. how tall is it from the roof to the top of the rack?

About 7-8'' depending on where you measure with the curve of the roof.

Let's say you guys want to throw something like a surfboard/snowboard/anything that needs crossbars, what do you do? Thats about the only reason I do not have/will not buy a rack.

i made mine out of 3/4 box tube, thin wall, and some expanded. i carry a 33", my stainless on board air tank and compressor and lights, train horn, and its got plenty of room for the other stuff i still need, lift, shovel, blaa blaa. i tried the gutter mount idea, didnt work for me, first big bump and they pop off, especially with weight. my jeep came with those bicycle carrier type clamps, so i made a big bracket, that thos clamps would clamp to, and welded those brackets to some 1/8 plate and then straight to the roof of my jeep.holds up awesome. i can get you some pics up close if you are still interested. i wont waste my time if you already have something figured out. let me know mane!!!!!!!!!

to those who asked about if i chose a rack yet. no. i just sold the xj yesterday. im moving home(Texas from Pittsburgh where im at now) and then ill buy another one(rust free!!!) and restart my build there.

Here's my '93 with a Yakima Megawarrior rack mounted to the stock rails. The main function was to create space inside the Jeep when going camping so it wasn't so cramped with the fiance and our dog in the back. Works great for that purpose and I just load all the lightweight stuff on the rack - like sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, luggage bags, etc. This keeps things from being too top heavy. I like the versatility of the rack since I can easily add mounts for a shovel, hi-lift, spare tire, snowboards, bikes, etc. It's a nice rack and I'll probably get it setup with some gutter mounts and crossbars for strength.

Looks like on I-50 almost at South Lake Tahoe. I've always wanted to hike up to see the water fall that is back there.

Anyone know what rack this is? Say's 'rock' or something on the front and sides. I asked in another thread but haven't gotten a response yet.

Does anybody have a Con Ferr with 4 lights on the front? I just got a sick deal on one that I need to re-finish (surface rust) and I'm going to weld in some light tabs for some of my Christmas presents - 4 Hella 500FFs :]

It'd be cool to get an idea of what it'll look like when I'm done.

I just installed this Rage basket from DiscountRacks.com item RB-50202L. Wasn't happy with most of the other baskets out there for the price. Only $130 plus shipping. Like the size of it 62.5" x 45". Don't like the mounting hardware that came with it but that will be changed out soon. Doesn't look very sturdy in the pictures but it really is. Plan on putting up some lights soon too. Installed a Hanson Rear Bumper with Tire carrier tonight (got it off e-bay). Need to finish it in the morning and get some pictures.

When I go to discountracks.com I get a "domain up for sale." Was that the actual website? If so, looks like you got it just in time.

I'd like to know about that rack in Dan2k06's pic, too. Googling "jeep rock rack roof" .... well, let's just say there's a lot of stuff that isn't it.

The guy with the unknown roof rack has a build up somewhere, maybe JF. I tried searching for it for a while but I couldnt find it. I think he had a bunch of pictures done for Quadratec if Im not mistaken.

Edit: You can call me the magic man,

I ordered this rack from Trocko. A friend turned me on to them. They are new to the U.S. market. I was able to get a promotional deal on the rack. Very satisfied with the quality and design. This is their small rack, 40x51, and weighs 36lbs.. It mounts to the cross members of my factory rack. It's working fine, a little creaking now and then. I'm going to have JRC fab a cross bar and use there rain gutter mounts, as I want it strong enough to be used as a photo platform.
Here's a look:

I really liked the price, but your right the hardware blew... I welded some of the parts together along with using their bolts, welded more of the basket to the frame, and welded tabs for the straps. Found some THULE gutter mount bars on CL for $20 and bought some new u-bolts from home depot. Has survived alot of camping gear on it and is fairly light unloaded.
