THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, not to add another thing to your busy schedule but let me know if you end up able to go to that junkyard to scope out that j20 rear bumper for me. no prob if you can't, I just don't want it to disappear or get crushed. the stupid place sells them for $39, but if they pull it, $139.

Yeah they're lame and charge 100 to pull anything, doesn't matter what.

I'm way too busy today but I'll see if I can't wedge a run in on Monday morning. Do you need the mounts or can I sawzall them? I hate to sawzall rare stuff but it will make it a hell of a lot faster.

Heading off to rip apart a roof... :yelclap:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm on board and I approve everything except for the c4... practical or not or whatever, I just can't say I'd be ok with it. would it sway you if I started
a t-5(or other 5 speed of your choice) fund? :) otherwise though, that does sound like a cool little vehicle.

So this dumb TTB project I've being going on about. Let's throw some reality into it.

Start with a junk explorer. Keep the forward part of the frame, build drop brackets as necessary for the TTB, build new radius arms, sub in Bronco 44 outers, done. Some guy made adapter brackets to convert everything over to the HP44 TTB from a Bronco. Adds about 3" track width; I think that'll work. The rear 8.8 would be fine.

Engine would be a 3.2 V6 SHO, mated to a C4, NP205 case.

Front would be ~7" uptravel, 7" down. Rear would be easily 8 and 8. All coilovered with airbumps.

Tires would be 35x12.50, probably Maxxis Creepies.

If I drop a CJ tub on top of this mess, I can use the VIN from the CJ tub to register the vehicle as 'historic'. Which means I'd be able to drive this thing around all the time (I could reinstall the windshield frame where appropriate), drive it to the pine barrens and bomb around through the woods down there...

For sake of argument, let's say it'd be a CJ/YJ with TTB front and linked rear, coilovers all around, badass steering up front, 35's, front spooled / rear ARB, 4.88s in the axles, stretched to ~104" wheelbase. With a high-200's+ HP motor redlining at 8000 RPM, full manual valve body in the trans.

This gets me:

- 3200 RPM @ 72 MPH on the highway in high range
- 8000 RPM @ 76 MPH in low range
- 100 MPH @ just under 5000 RPM in high range
- 32 MPH redline in first gear low, 60 MPH in redline 2nd gear low

How friggin fun does that sound. I'd totally make the cage to mimic the front half of a YJ, and use the doors and shit. I'd drive it around & to work a ton. Plus I think it'd actually wheel pretty well.

God damn it...

Man... I just can't get into the automatic thing. I know it's a race, but manual is still just so much fun. I highly approve your use of a SHO engine, however. Are you planning on building it at all?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The decking on my roof is a XXXXing disaster below the eaves... the rest seems ok. I have faith I can finish this in a few weeks as I just removed about 1/8 of the shingles in an hour and a half. Going good, I haven't fallen off the roof yet :roflmao:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do you already have internet out there? or are you using your phone?

if you dont already have one i HIGHLY suggest a shingle shovel. its basicallt a flat shovel with grooves in the front to get the nails and a wedge on the bottom of the shovel part to pry the nails out. i can clear a rather large sized house roof in a few hrs with one. cleanup is a beeotch tho

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Cleanup is absolutely the worst part about roofing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mmm I love sleeping in. Time to eat breakfast and start making the template for my cargo floor. My hope is to atleaset have the sheet metal cut out and the tank skid mocked in. Not too worried about the welding just yet.

I have like 3 T-5s kickin around over there.

Ever driven something with a full manual valve body? The 2-1 downshift can put you through the windshield and lock up all 4 tires if you do it at the wrong time. Manual just isn't in the cards for this rig.

Motor would probably be mostly stock just to get it going (would probably flip the intake and maybe run 3.0 cams, nothing fancy). There should be plenty of room in the engine bay to add a turbo or SC later on.

you clearly have never stripped a roof of cedar shingles, that sucks

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i just bought a pair of "mocked up" 10" travel bilstein 5150's, 255/70 valving for $25 each.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sawzalling is fine. Those are semi hard to find as well, but I already have a set and they're not THAT complicated to have made up anyways.

Would be a huge help and I'd gladly get you beer/parts or whatever for your efforts. Good luck with the roofing! ttys

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm still nervous to pull up the carpet and start fixing up my front floors. gonna hve to get going this week maybe so i can get the damn thing inspected. got myself some sheet metal though so i can slap some shit together. i'm thinking sheet metal screws + RTV + cutting out some of the rust will be plenty good enough!
