Input on The Union

So ,all in all I was fired today on first my offense. Myrecord shows I work hard and am a team player But , when you talk union and management hears this or sees you with a union member you are a done deal. (target. Well about 20 to thirty workers from third and first shift said they wanted the union to help them with better working conditions and less stressful environment. To not follow them around and watching every move they make. There are a few lazy workers but, one day they will be gone. There is a 75% or more hard working employees. So if paying 50 bucks a month for having a wage at 18 to 19 dollars an hour to start then I'm all for this. I was a union member and still am for the trade show industry. Im on inactive statis. Indusrty was slow two years ago and still trying to recover from the economy break down. I was at a little over the 22$ mark. I took a huge pay cut then went to the company I was let go from. Dont be fooled by the companies saying there not making any money because if they were not, they would not still be in business:greensmok

You sound like you are mad at the people running/owning the company for making money. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO GET RICH. It is their company. If you want to get rich....open your own damn company...pay workers compensation, insurance, health benefits, vacation, sick pay and all that and see if you want the union in your company making more demands. You sir.....are an idiot. If the company goes under, you find another job.....the guy owning it takes the biggest hit (might lose everything), thus he/they derserve the greatest benefit. All you union A-holes talk about how much money the companys make but you dont own it.

What if an employer catches an employee sleeping? They have to get you before they approach the employee, right? So if the steward makes noise and wakes the employee....where is the proof? I have heard of things like this happening and it is one of the reasons for "protecting the lazy" being a reason to dislike unions.

I applied for a union job at the docks (running a vacuum sucking lye out of ships cargo areas via joystick controls). They explained to me that two of us "worked" together and once we both came on shift, one would go on break for two hours while the other vacuumed for two hours. We would then switch. Then one would go from break to lunch and the other from working to lunch. After lunch one to 2 hour break and one to vacuum........4 hours working out of a 8 hour work day (not including lunch).....come on now......abuse is an understatement.

Oh, and it paid $24 an hour (or something like that).
Is the position still open? :D Where I work it is nothing like that. If you get caught breaking the rules you get busted. The union steward (me) doesn't get involved until you are called in to 'splain yourself. Then all I can do is make sure the employer follows the terms of the contract regarding discipline. I can file a grievance only if the terms of the contract are not met.

Even if you are not a member of a union, you have recourse. If your company does not have a written policy stating that the violation is a terminable offense then you can file a complaint with the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. They will investigate and mediate a resolution. If you can't come to an agreement with the employer they will issue you a right to sue letter, then you sue them. Call Larry H Parker!

I have been in the unuon for about 9 years and the only reason for that is my company requires it.My company pays them off to let them do crooked things. And if we have a problem with our employer and go the the hall, the reps will call my employer and tell them and then I am in BIG trouble so
i hate unions atleast mine

I see this attitude alot, it seems to be a popular drum to beat for union types. I wholeheartedly agree that if you took the risk to start up a company and you pay all the huge bills then you are entitled to make as much profit as the market will bear. And if you don't like what the company is offering for pay and benefits then don't work there. One thing unions are good for is when a company breaks it's own rules.

I have worked both union and non-union. Unions benifit the lazy good for nothing workers. The good workers are usually pissed because they all get the same pay! Doesn't seem fair to me.

In a non-union shop if you excel at your job your paid accordingly or in this economy you get to keep your job.

I like working for myself!!! Just my $0.02

First of all to me thats fine for the company to make money but when you are under paid for what you do. You are doing the same thing as the fulerton branch because they are a union then there is a problem. DONT cheat the employees. Second, of all I work my ass off and there are others that work there tail off as well and management ask to push more and you are maxing out without breaking the rules. Theres a problem. It becomes a saftey issue and SIR I am all for saftey in the work place Now lets break this down since you hit below the waist like a bitch. Sir maybe you are that little mouse thats hideing in the corner hopeing the storm will pass. Guess what your ass will be tossed up too. I are we good. I roll with the punches. This is not personal until you bring it.:gee:

When you post up and make this personal calling some one an idiot ... is this clear enough or do you have selective memory? I dont know you . When some one comes side ways like that i return it. this is who i am. Just getting opinions on this union subject thats it. I dont disrespect you or anyone else like that. Expect it back when you dish it out.

my dad has been a teamster for 25 yrs.. the union has saved his ass a few times.. and they have kept him employeed thru all he cut backs and lay offs..

My dad was in the UAW and was a working member for almost 30 years.
My father was no slouch and took his job seriously. I remember him often bringing work home to work out the details of his next days task.
My pops was able to provide for his family and provide my mother with a good pension after he passed away.

My wife is currently a member of a health care workers union. Her wages are pretty poor but she loves what she's doing. She helps patients, scheduling treatment at UCLA.

I know of at least two that work (or worked) plenty hard for their compensation. Anyway, I'm proud of both of these union members.

PM coming

Finally some action on NAXJA! BTW, my money is on Andy. Glad to see there are some people that can see unions have clearly ruined our country's economy.

Every one is entitled to and OPINION, also the got a little out of hand and became chidish in some ways. We are all adults and the high school stuff is for kids. I was from a Union family also and the union is still takeing good care of my grand father. I understand that people think that all unions are bad. But the fact is they are not.
