what is this thing and why is it knocking?

what is this thing and why the hell is it knocking.

i just spent lots of $$ replacing both my hubs (again) and both front rotors (again)

also changed the oil and switched brands of oil filter so i don't know if maybe thats why. also changed my gas cap but other than that nothing new. also ive had an increasingly knocking noise from the engine thats been getting slowly louder over the past few months.

That's your EGR/vapor purge solenoid, I forget which. I believe if it's knocking it's working properly.

For future reference, anything connected to the vacuum line system will be shown in the pictorial schematic on the underside of the hood or the front radiator support member.

Yes that's normal. My '01 does the same thing.

it's never knocked before. it knocks pretty loud and i can feel the knock when i put my hand to it. just sounds bad i guess

they offer a set of insulators for it. It was recommended for my 03 Grand, but being the cheapie that I am I just live with the knock

My 2001 does the same thing. I took the mounting bracket off the fire wall and cut a piece of rubber ( old mud flap ) the same as the mounting bracket, and put it back together. Its not the greatest fix but it was free and easy.

mine does the same thing on my 96. it will be ok.

it means its working, as they get older is when they start making noise. get the complaint all the time working at a chrysler jeep dealer.

Mine only makes noise for the first minute or so of driving then shuts right up. Emissions related BS....
