Trails.....

You have gears? Make sure you have appropriate spare parts.

What rear? As long as its not a 27 spline or less rear, you should be fine for Tackhammer/LBJ, Clawhammer, or the bunny runs. Maybe aftershock with the right lead and if you're a good driver, but i hear its pretty tore up right now.

The entire point of Goatfest is to get the guys who don't usually get to run hammer trails out on to the hammer trails; but at the same time we DO have to make sure we aren't creating a problem for us and destroying your jeep. ;)

As far as SoCalFest goes .. yeah, apparently there were some problems there. A guy on a stock rig showed up and was told there was not a trail for him to run, he should find a passenger seat. I think they had the wrong guys doing the runs, who set unrealistic requirements so they wouldnt have to actually do any work.
Rear is a 44. Thanks for the info man, Ill see what happens. Also, I could care lass about body damage.

What are your gears?

3.55's with 33's I suppose is probably doable, but you are going to scramble and not finesse on the more technical stuff.

I dont know who's leading what exactly yet (matty and i havent set final plans, and probably wont until we see what people want to do that day) but I'll probably end up leading claw or sledge, and you're probably welcome with me - just don't be afraid to take a strap.

Im easy Cal.... What ever works is cool. I'll either lead or tag along on a run.

Ehh im out..

Dont be deterred..... I've wheeled with you before and your rig works good....and better now you've got alloys up front. :D

You'll be fine for Claw/Aftershock..... Not having a rear locker will make it a little more challenging in a couple spots but you'll be fine overall.

The guidelines we set for rig requirements are flexible, like Cal mentioned earlier. They are just there to give people ,who have never been to JV before, an idea of what their build would be most suited to.

Trust me... Claw and Aftershock will give you more of a rock crawling challenge than all the trails in Big Bear and Corral Canyon combined. Even the Tackhammer/Lower big johnson run is overall harder than John Bull.

The most exciting part about wheeling in JV is wheeling outside your usual elements. Shit is tough out there and thats why you get a buzz bigger than anywhere else, when you complete a trail.

You should defiantely come....you'll love it!

I do!!!!!
:D

my jeep is just not built enough.

Bah.

Even if you did the bunny trails there is still plenty of fun to be had. Just because you can't do Wrecking Ball doesn't mean JV isn't totally worth it. Hell, JV is worth it even if your Jeep never leaves Means Lake or you drive a Honda there!

It didn't seem (or feel, at least) like it was that far when we went there this spring from the usual lakebed camp area.
Having been on it as passenger, I'd say it should definitely be a run (but I'll be leading the bunny run, and don’t have enough build to run it, so it's just my recommendation!). DeathValleyPaul led it for us for the SoCalXJ Jambo this spring and definitely knew where the trail ran.

On that note, folks, please come out to the Jambo even if you're stock. Johnson Valley's an amazing place. I've done the "scenic" runs twice (different routes both times) with no lift and 29" tires, with XJ full of teens and dog. There are always side shoots you can find if you crave interesting terrain, too.

I drove on the “scenic runs” at GoatFest in 11/06 http://tinyurl.com/11-06-NAXJA-Jambo and in 3/07 with SoCalXJ for their Jambo http://tinyurl.com/3-07-SCXJ-Jambo. I recommend them even for those that have a serious level of build but just want an easy cruise on Saturday a.m.

And no, I'm not saying this because I'm leading the run, but because it will hopefully be a great and enjoyable time.

I do not have a rear locker. What trials would ok for that setup? I just dont want to drive 4 hours and run the super easy, bunny trails!

I almost never lock my rear locker, front only 98% of the time. Use your emergency brake a little and you can do quite a bit.

Is Bullfrog going to be a run at goatfest?
Dude just go, I did tackhammer and lower big johnson on 33" tires and stock 3.55 gears. It was still a blast to run only 2 trails. Plus there's sooo many other things u could do!

Well, I guess I'm out for leading a run at Bullfrog, I need to learn that trail a little better before I lead a large group thru it.

You sure? I'm counting on you. ;)

leading 3 vs leading 20 isnt very different. I can put a good tailgunner in the group with you..
