hey everybody

got a friend who went wheeling over the weekend. few specs of his cherokee. np231, AW4, 8.25, d30, locked f/r. well he has been having some funny noises coming from what he thought was his t-case. im at school, so i cant help him look at anything, so im just going off what he told me. knowing his t-case hasn't been right he decided to go wheeling anyways:nono:

but he starts climbing a hill, and pop. no power, reverse, drive, nothing. gets out and cant see anything. driveshafts look fine, axle shafts look fine.

so were thinking something in the t-case let go, but the only thing thats weird is he cant put his tranny in park. it just wont slide into P.

last time his XJ was in the shop, they found out it was making noise because there wasn't a drop of t-case fluid in it, and he just drove 2 hours down the interstate:worship:...which makes me still think its the t-case

headed in the right direction?. if i was home id crack it open for him, but im just trying to give him ideas right now

Uhm... seems to me that if he can't put it in park there is something wrong with the trans.
Just cause the tcase is probably F-ed doesn't mean the trans is healthy, in fact we're pretty sure the trans is busted, aren't we?

Could be the output shaft or the chain in the T-Case. Or possibly the output shaft on the tranny itself. Can he put it in park when the engine is off?

That happened to me in a real bad mud hole. it scared the crap out of me. I have the 5 speed, I had none of my 5 forward gears and no reverse I was about to die I was about a mile out in the woods with only me two friends and a busted jeep. I checked everythig but couldnt find it. just before i gave up I looked at my 4wd shift and realize it poped out of 4low and slid into netural. I put it back in 4 low and crawled out.

so moral of the story: cover all your bases. make sure his 4wd stick is not in neutral. even thought im pretty sure thats not the problem, you never know.

Had something similar climbing a hill. Turns out the bolt that adjusts the 4wd shifter linkage had loosened up and wouldn't allow me to fully put it in gear.
