2000 T-case and trans in 1999 XJ HELP

Alright guys title says it all. I just bought a CLEAN Xj from Cali but the issue is its 2wd. I have a complete parts XJ to take all the 4x4 from (was my old jeep before it was rolled). Yes I know what I'm getting into, I just have a few questions in regards to the t-case connectors. Reading through some other write ups, they say the connectors changed from '99 to '00 and because of this you either have to change out the injector harness to a 4x4 harness or, from my understanding, 3 of the wires on the different connector are the same color, can i cut these 3 wires and put the '00 connector on the '99 harness? Again from what i understand the only thing this would eliminate is the indicator light for the 4wd. Any help would be appreciated!
