87XJ/WJ = Delco CS-series, internally regulated alternator. The small plug on the back of the alternator that has (I think) 3 wires in it is the regulator plug.
The regulator can be replaced by disassembling the alternator, or just replace the alternator entirely - your call. It's not really that difficult to rebuild, so the choice is up to you and how you feel about your mechnical ability.
