Steering column

I need to change the steering column in a 90 XJ, The tilt has completely given out and cannot be tightened anymore. Does anyone know if the column from a newer XJ (92-96) is compatible. Any advise is appreciated.

I know that the 84-86 columns are interchangeable. The 87-90 are also. But the wiring may be different from a 91-96. And i think ( I could be very wrong) but they switched from a GM Column to a Chrysler one before the 96 model year.

Thanks, I was thinking that the harnesses or plugs would all be wrong.

I think that coincided with the addition of air bags...'95 or '96 maybe? I'm 99.9% sure my old '94 didn't have an air bag.
