Is a 231 a 231? (T-case swap help)

Hi gang!

I want to use a 231 from a 2000 auto in my 1999 AX15 equipped XJ is this a direct bolt in swap?

autos and manual had different spline counts for the t-cases...so im going to go with no

not true.

it is the same case with the exact same spline count

yeah, but the shaft length may be different.

Also earlier auto cases will be 21 spline, but earlier AX15 cases are 23 spline then they went all 23 spline. I can't remember when the change over was.

Wrong.

Which shaft? They're the same, manual trans, auto trans, 21 spl, 23 spl.

Please help me decipher it.

I want to use a 231 from an auto trany 2000 in my 1999 AX15 truck. The aforementioned 231 already has a SYE installed. I know I will have drive shaft issues to deal with. Other than that is it good to go?
