never ended aw4 problems

OK, so ive had the problem of my tranny going into 'limp mode' for a while now. it starts off in 3rd gear and i have to shift manually, mechanically the transmissionw works fine, shifting manually works , and reverse works perfectly. On the odd time it works properly as a hole, it shifts smoothly.

The cherokee is a 95, 4.0 with the aw4. about 230,000 km's. around 145,000 miles... ish?

Now, the fluid is not the problem, for it is new, so is the filter.

I have also tried 3 differnt TCU's with no luck.

Maybe the change the solenoids?

Time to break out the meter and start measuring. http://www.transonline.com/transdigest/magazines/1997-10/Shift Pointers/index.html You need to check for power to the TCU and the solenoid resistances.

Note that the article was written for the older Jeeps, so the TPS signal will be reversed (ie 5->0 volts versus, 0->5 volts). You also don't have the fuse in the wiring harness by the TCU either.

find a wiring diagram and test the 3 solenoids resistance, each one should be between 11 and 15 ohms. i just replaced solenoid 2 for a shifting problem

Check the fuse at the trans module... maybe blown or you have lost power to the fuse ..
